UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:

What are the principal mechanisms by which living things reproduce and transmit information between
parents and offspring?

LESSON OBJECTIVE:
Given a handout, students will be able take the handout and go to the given cites, answer the questions
on the handout and put the information together in a power point with 40/40 points on a rubric.
STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
Investigate the habitats of different kinds of local plants and animals (GGLE 0207.2.1)
Recognize that animals eat plants and other animals for food (GLE 0207.3.1)
Compare the life cycles of various organisms. (GLE 0207.4.1)

Technology integration: students will use the given cites on the handout to answer the given questions
about the specific animals and then they will put their findings in a PowerPoint.

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:

Students will show a clear understanding of the life cycle, habitats, food need, and water needs of
various animals by providing visual representation in the form of a Power Point.
Academic language is not addressed in IDT 3600
This is a build from the previous lesson of the TV state standard 0207.1.1
This lesson will then be built and turned into a subsequent lesson of TN state standard 0207.4.2 and
students will see that parents pass along physical characteristics to their offspring
I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master the objectives and for
those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not part of
this particular lesson.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:


Introduction: I will start the lesson by asking the students if they know anything about zebras, Giraffes,
elephants, or lions? Maybe where they live, what they eat, what they look like? I will also tell them that
after this project they will know more about these animals
Procedures:
Prior to the computer (15 min)
Teacher procedure:
Introduce the lesson and get the children interested in learning about animal habitats and
what they eat.
At the computer (45 min)
Teacher procedure
1. Hand out worksheet
2. Have students open up internet
3. Go over the worksheet with them and the procedure of that they will be doing and
where to record their answers initially (on paper)
4. Give an example on one of the websites and answer a question for one of the animals
5. Ask if there are any questions
6. About 15 minutes into the students research have them stop
7. Demonstrate how they will put their Power Point presentation together and show
them how to import pictures, change font, and different things you can do with Power
Point
8. Ask if there are any questions, if no questions let them get back to work
9. With about 10 minutes left in computer time have the students stop and save their
work on to their USB so that they can finish their power point at home
After the computer in the classroom (15 min)
Teacher procedure:
1. Ask students to tell you what they have learned so far about the animals
2. Ask them if they have any questions about working in Power Point
Student procedure
1. Tell what they have learned so far
2. Ask questions if they have any

Closure: at the end of class I will make sure everyone understand what they are supposed to be doing so
that they can finish their PowerPoint at home. I will them begin to tell the how this lesson will continue
into what we will be learning about animals in the next lesson.
