PILOT LADDER
28. Pilot ladder specification - (a) Every step of a pilot ladder shall be not less
than 480 millimetres long, 115 millimetres wide and 25 millimetres deep, excluding
any non-slip device;
(b) Step of a pilot ladder shall be equally spaced not
less than 300 millimetres or more than 380 millimetres from the next step;
(c) Every pilot ladder shall have an arrangement of two
uncovered manilla side ropes, each of which is not less than 60 millimetres in
circumference (  18mm in dia) and has no joints or splices below the top step
 (d) Two man-ropes that are properly secured to the ship
and not less than 65 millimetres in circumference ((  28mm in dia), and a safety
line shall be kept close to the pilot ladder
(e) Spreader that are not less than 1.80 metres long
shall be fitted to the pilot ladder so that
(f) The lowest spreader is attached in line with the fifth
step from the bottom;
(g) The spreader are not more than nine steps apart.
