Louis Armstrong was an influential jazz trumpeter and singer. He was a pioneer of jazz music who incorporated improvisation in his solos. Armstrong grew up in New Orleans and was heavily influenced by King Oliver. He later moved to Chicago where he made early jazz recordings with his Hot Five and Hot Seven groups. Armstrong had a major influence on the development of jazz and was one of the first jazz musicians to achieve star status.
