1) Block diagrams can be reduced by applying algebraic operations to the transfer functions represented by the blocks. 2) For blocks in series, their transfer functions are multiplied, so the series combination of blocks G1 and G2 is represented by G1G2. 3) For blocks in parallel, their transfer functions are added, so parallel blocks G and H are represented by G+H.
