Memorandum

The library media staff at Lee Roy Myers Middle School conducted an evaluation of their library media program using a rubric with six categories and 21 criteria. They found two areas were basic: student achievement assessment and media specialist engagement in teaching roles. Their action steps to address these were to offer more interventions through teacher collaboration and regularly assess student achievement by attending teacher meetings. They also identified one area as proficient that could be exemplary: administrative support of the library program. Their action plan is to strengthen relationships with administrators through collaboration to advocate for the importance of the library media program.

Based on the rubric, Dr. Bass and I concluded that there are two areas identified as basic that
received action steps listed below:
Action Steps for Basic Category 1: Target 3
The action steps that Dr. Bass and I would take to address this area would be to offer
more interventions through collaboration with the classroom teachers. We believe
collaboration is key for transition from classroom to the media center. It is important for
teachers to see us as Co-Teachers to with valuable resources to enhance their classroom
instruction.
Action Steps for Basic Category 1: Target 6
The action steps that Dr. Bass and I would take to address this area would be to continue
to develop a working relationship with all teachers. One way to keep abreast of student
achievement is to attend grade group meetings and/or set up a time to meet individually
to discuss various ways to assess student achievement.
Based on the rubric, Dr. Bass and I have developed an action plan to move the area listed below
from proficient to exemplary.
Action Plan for Proficient to Exemplary Category 5: Target 17
We will continue to build our relationships with Leadership through frequent
collaboration. Through collaboration, we will ask to take part in faculty meetings, grade
group meetings, and through workshops. We believe by taking an active part in being
advocates for the library media program it will enlighten the principal and administrators
of the importance of the role of the media program in their schools. By taking these steps,
it will lead to teacher participation and collaboration in the media program. We will
continue to keep abreast of the current trends and being members of the GLMA (Georgia
Library Media Association) and AASL (American Association of School Librarians.
