Comparison Between OSI and TCP Model

The document compares the OSI and TCP models. Both models have layers and share application and transport/network layers. However, the OSI model has 7 layers while TCP has 4 layers, making it simpler. While TCP supports internetworking, OSI does not. Each layer has different functions and data types in the two models. The OSI model supports both connection-oriented and connectionless communication at the network layer. In conclusion, the OSI model is more complex due to its additional layers, but standardizes interfaces between layers, while TCP focuses on transporting data over the internet.

Comparison between OSI and TCP model

In this task I will produce the similarities and differences between the OSI
model and TCP model.
Similarities

Both models are constructed with layers

These models share Application Layer
they have comparable transport and network layers
Both model assume that individual packet may take different paths
but will end up in the same destination
They both provide a oriented end-to-end transport service
Both are based on a stack of independent protocols

Differences

OSI model has 7 layers

TCP model has 4 layers
TCP is simple model since it has few layers
TCP supports internetworking but OSI doesnt support internet
working
The functions of each layer are in each model
If error detected in packet then TCP model will be retransmitted
OSI model supports both connectionless and connection-oriented
communication in the network layer

Conclusion
Overall my conclusion about OSI model is that the each layer has different
data type handled. OSI model reduces complexity, has standardizes
interface, and can be improved when technology improves. This layer is
not a simple layer since it has 7 layers so the model is more complicate
then the TCP model. Each layer has its own characteristics, functions and
features. The OSI model shows the communication between two different
hosts.
The TCP model exchanges the data between two hosts. This model is
designed to send packet data overt internet. TCP is a transport layer in
the OSI layer - it is used to create a connection between remote
computers by transporting and ensuring the delivery of messages over
networks and the Internet. This protocol operates the transport layer.
