Professional
Teaching Portfolio

Hello! My name is Alica Petreit.

Ive been teaching for the six spectacular years. I have taught two
years at Wilson Elementary and four years at Carr Middle
School in Montgomery, Alabama. Even though I have taught
different grade levels, I have been fortunate to be able to
share my passion for learning. My first year, I was selfcontained with 32 students. My second year, I taught fifth
grade math and science to three classes. This past few years, I
have taught science classes to traditional, advanced and magnet
students that have encompassed many languages, special needs
and cultures.
I am very blessed to be married to my husband, Tim. We have a
delightful family with Katie Belle (9) and Garrett (14).

As an effective educator, my goal is to provide many learning

experiences for children that walk in my classroom. I am
dedicated to making each year meaningful, productive, and
exciting. I strive for my students to become more independent
and to develop a love of learning.

Strategies

I really enjoy introducing new strategies to

my students. They get very excited to have a
hands-on approach to learning. Once they
realize it is a fun way to learn, they are
begging for more!
All students can learn, they just learn
differently from one another.
One strategy I try to incorporate is choice. I
have found that if given a choice on how to
present information (power points, videos,
posters, etc.) students get more excited and
give me great work that shows their learning.

I hope you have enjoyed a brief glimpse into my life as

a teacher and learner. I love what I do and have been
very blessed to be in the classroom. I teach because I
love children and the look on their face when they see
me not only as a teacher, but as someone they can look
up to. To teach a child is to give them something for
life. That is why I teach. Thank you for your time and
consideration.
Sincerely,
Alica Petreit
