Account Lockout Steps

1. Update password on a EAS mobile device


If you have changed your password recently and you have a mobile device that uses EAS to
receive email and the password is not updated on the mobile device, EAS will still attempt to
authentic with the old domain password, thus locking the account. Refer to the appropriate KD
below to update the password.
2. Turn off Wi-Fi on a mobile device
If you are connected to Wireless Dnet using the Wi-Fi feature of your mobile device (such as
iPhone, iPod Touch, Windows Mobile Device, Droid, etc), when the domain password changes but is
not updated on the device, the account will get locked when the device is in a Deloitte office and
the Wi-Fi is on, attempting to authenticate.
3. Change the Domain Password
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del
Click Change Password
Type the old and new password
Click OK or the blue arrow button (Vista)

Disable the eRoom monitor in the startup if running.


Click Start > Run
Type msconfig
Click OK
Click the Startup tab
Uncheck the eRoom monitor
Click OK
Reboot

5. Turn off Wireless card when logging in


If Wireless is enables on your system and you are connected to the network using a network
cable. Make sure wireless is disabled when logging on at the start of your day. On rare occasions if
the wireless card is enabled at startup and you accidently enter the wrong password. In some
cases the wireless Connect.
6. Disconnect mapped drives and applications (if any) on the PC.
7. Occasionally a users account will lock when trying to access a certain application via Internet
Explorer. This means that the stored credentials, on the Vista machine, have the wrong password.
To remove the old password:

Click Start and type Run in the Search field.


Type in:
rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr

And click OK. The Stored User Names and Passwords box will appear.
Remove the offending entry.

8. Close Outlook and open the following path:


In Vista C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft
Once open, you will see numerous folders including a protect folder.
Delete the protect folder

When you have deleted the protect folder, restart Outlook.


You will be requested to enter your password again, but it will be the last time.
9. net use /persistent:no
/PERSISTENT:{yes | no} : Controls the use of persistent network connections. The default is the
setting used last. Deviceless connections are not persistent. Yes saves all connections as they are
made, and restores them at next logon. No does not save the connection being made or
subsequent connections. Existing connections are restored at the next logon. Use /DELETE to
remove persistent connections.
10. net use * /delete

(deletes saved passwords on systems)

11. Log into users OWA


On top right hand side corner Click on options. Click on See all options from the drop down list.

Click on the phone tab on the left hand side, select mobile phones tab on the top.
See if any device has been added in there. Remove the device. Ask the users reconfigure the active
sync device again and ask him/her not to select the save password option.

12. This step is for Admins who can access the users Outlook profile via MFCMAPI:
Have the end user power off the device (PDA). Break the link from the PDA to Outlook via OWA as listed
in step 11 above. Create an Outlook profile for the end user and use MFCMAPI to access the profile.
Expand Root Container and then ExchangeSyncData. Look for existing devices as shown below. Right
click each device and select delete folder. Select Hard Delete. This will remove all devices. Keep the
phone off to see if the lockout reoccurs. If it does and the logs show CISCO, focus on the PC.
