2. Background
9. This app is in creation because of the Fraud and Cyber Crime Unit within
the Queensland police service. The program has already completed a very
successful pilot phase, where 7 schools around Queensland were chosen
to participate. The app focuses on encourage school Children to learn
about cyber safety, online threats, having responsible online behavior and
knowing when to share this information with their families also known as
being Fiscals Deputy It unlike most programs seeks to educate the
children, which will empower them to become the educator and protector
of their families. It is envisaged that this will help to foster a cyber-safe
culture from the ground up. Therefore making the internet a safer play for
everyone.
10.

3. Target audience
11. The targeted audience of the application will be young children between
the ages of five and fifteen. This was chosen as this is the age group who
the application will be used for as they are only then developing their
interest in the internet.
12.

3.1.

Audience beliefs

13. The targeted audience may not find the information currently too
interesting as there are currently nothing interactive to interest and engage
them. Most of what is currently available are readings which young
children will not find engaging. The application would do well to avoid this
and engage the target audience through interactive means where the user
can have a fun and engaging learning experience.
14.

3.2.

Audience levels

15. The targeted audience will have a primary level education. This will be as
children between these ages are most vulnerable. It is aimed towards this
age to help instill safe and responsible online behavior to avoid online
threats. As this is the age that young children will start using the internet,
the application will be used to help them develop their skills for using the
internet safely.
16.

3.3.

Audience demographics

17. Shown from studies, the younger audiences have access to and use tablet
devices as there are simple and basic to follow unlike computers. This
would be a preferred means to communicate with the target through the
application. More young children are shown to have access to tablet
devices at home, while schools are now purchasing tablet devices for
communicative applications to help with the learning of their students.
18. As the application will be aimed towards primary school students, the
application will need to be mainly visual, with limited and basic words as
younger children may not be able to understand.
19. Due to the age of the targeted audience, a very basic understand of
technology is expected. Due to this, the application will need to be
simplistic and easy to follow, showing entertaining and engaging visual
design.
20. As the application will be targeted towards this age group, the best choice
of platform will be a tablet device. As the application will be designed for
such a devices, the application will be aimed towards targeted audiences
who come from moderate income families or higher.
21.

3.4.

Audience expectations

22. To have the application be successful, the application will need to be

engaging and entertaining for the audience, also on a basic level of
education for them to understand. For this to be so, the application will
need to be predominantly visual with the aid of colour and interactive
elements to keep them engaged and to show them the message of the
program.

4. Problem Statement
23. The client is the Fraud and Cyber Crime Unit within the Queensland Police
Service. The client has tasked us with developing an app that conveys the
messages in the program Fiscal the Fraud Fighting Ferret Cyber Safety
Program. The main problem with developing this app will be making the
app accessible to children and adults. The current time constraints are 10
weeks. The budget has been set at $6,000. The needs of this app is to
give children the information to be safe and secure online and also allow
them to be able to teach other how to be safe.

5. Goals
24. The goal of this app is to provide the information to the target audience
while staying within budget and the timeline.

5.1.

Usability Objectives

5.2.

Single message

25. Usability for this app will be fitted for a young audience. This will make the
requirements for the UI simple. The main features need to have minimal
clicks and interactions to get the basic information that is required to be
delivered. It is also required to be engaging to the target audience which
can be achieved through the use of colour and interactivity.
26.
27. The single message is to stay safe on the internet and due to the client
using the app to deliver this information, the legitimacy of this product
would not be in question as most of the information is teaching basic
common sense.
28.

5.3.

Mandatory elements

5.4.

Deliverables

29. The client information including name of the department and numbers to
reach for additional contact or questions will need to be present in the
application with links to their other sites of information for the targeted
audience to become further informed if chosen. The application will also
be required to use the characters created by the Fraud and Cyber Crime
Unit within the Queensland Police Service, particularly Fiscal the Fraud
Fighting Ferret.
30. The application will need to be interactive and engaging towards the
younger audience. This will be targeted through the colour scheme and
interactivity to help keep them engaged and entertained. The information
already on the site will be incorporated into the application, the video
episodes able to be linked into the application.

6. Alpha Design
31. This is your initial design, for stage two of the brief. Describe the tools you
used for this design stage and any key findings that informed your design.

Structural Design

34. How will you structure your product? How will you navigate through your
product? Why? This can take the form of a diagram showing structure
and hierarchy, supported by a discussion and justification of your choices.
Why have you made these design choices? Connect back to your
analysis. Give each design element a unique identifier

colour, fonts general screen designs. This can be sketches, wireframes,
mockups etc, supported by a discussion, explanation, and justification of
your choices. Why have you made these design choices? Connect back
to your analysis. Give each design element a unique identifier

37.
6.3.

Prototypes

38. Detail your prototyping approach. What tools have you chosen? Why is
this the best choice? Where will I find your prototypes? Photographs of
low fidelity prototypes can be included in this document, electronic
prototypes should be submitted separately and referred to within this
document.

39.

7. Testing
7.1.

Test Plan

7.2.

Test Results

40. Detail your usability testing approach, protocols and plan for your
prototypes. How will you test the design? Who are your test participants?
41.
42. Provide a summary of your test results. Detail dates of tests, participants,
test results, and notes relating to the outcome.
