Project 5

This document is a slideshow presentation on transformations in math for an 11th grade class. It introduces translations, reflections, and rotations as the three main types of transformations. For each transformation type, it provides a definition, example using everyday objects to relate to students, and an external link for more information. The presentation aims to explain transformations in an accessible way through everyday analogies and interactive examples.

Project #5

Welcome to 11th Grade

Math!
My name is Mrs. Nicole Martinez.
We have a lot of fun things to learn this
semester.

This is just a simple slide

show of a small and fun
lesson we have for today.
Lets get to learning!

Transformation
What is it?
Transformations occur anytime you
move, slide, flip, or rotate a shape.

An example of
transformation
Pretend you have to move to the
house next door. Did you grow
any taller? Did your eyes change
shapes? Did your feet grow?
Probably not. You just moved to
the house next door.
In math it is sort of the same way with shapes! When you take a triangle
and flip it, turn it around, or slide it somewhere, its referred to as
transformations. The triangle still has the same size, area,

angle, and length, the only difference is that you moved it.

Check out this fun website that tells

you all about transforming!

Translation
What is it?
In geometry translation means to
simply move: Left
Right
Up
Or down
However many points you move one point, you must move the
rest of the points in the same direction.

An example of translation

Imagine:
If I told you to walk sideways to the
next room, you would move one foot to
the side and the next right after. No
twists, no turns, just movement to the
side.
Just like translations in geometry!

Heres another interactive website that will

further explain translations!

ranslation.html

Reflection
What is it?
In geometry, reflection is exactly what
it sounds like: a reflection of a shape
that creates the other half, like a
mirror image.

An example of reflection
Remember when you were a kid
and folded a sheet of paper in half
and cut out the shape of half of a
heart, only to unfold it and it is a
whole heart? That is exactly what
reflection in geometry is.

Rotation
What is it?
Rotating in geometry means moving a
shape in a clockwise formation around
the very center.

An example of rotation
Experiment Time!
1. Get a marker and a sheet of paper.
2. Put the marker in the center of the
sheet.
3. Now spin the paper around.
It is still rotating isnt it? Every point should
make a circle around the center.

is provided in the link below!
