Placenta Previa Pathophysiology

The document discusses placenta previa, a condition where the placenta covers part or all of the cervix. It identifies age, gender, history of placenta previa, multiparity, and smoking as risk factors. The stages of placenta development are described starting from fertilization through implantation and formation of the placenta in the uterus. Types of placenta previa are defined based on how much of the cervix is covered. Risks of vaginal bleeding and complications like hypotension, shock and death if not properly managed are outlined. Good prognosis is associated with treatment and checkups while poor prognosis can include bleeding, shock and death.
