The document outlines classroom routines and procedures the teacher will implement. Key routines include having organized student desks and materials storage, sign-out sheets for shared supplies, one student at a time policies for things like drinking fountains and restrooms, and assigned seating for computers and group work. Transition procedures are also defined, such as lining up quietly and bringing needed materials when moving between rooms. The teacher will post assignments daily, monitor individual and group work progress, and track completed assignments to ensure student accountability.

Handbook of Classroom Routines

Rational: It is important to establish classroom routines that are positive

and promote effective student engagement. The following table reflects
examples of routines I will incorporate into my classroom:

Area:

Room Use

Teachers desk and

storage areas

Student desks and

storage areas

Storage for common

materials

Drinking fountains,
sinks, pencil sharpener

Students will be able to access teachers

front of desk materials and storage areas
only if asking permission from teacher.
Storage areas will be kept closed and
neatly organized so students understand
that they are not freely open to them.
Students will maintain an organized and
neat desk and storage area. They may
also not be able to use other students
desk or materials unless asked
permission. At the end of every day we
will spend a couple minutes to make sure
they leave their desk clean.
Students may use items stored on open
shelves (materials will be things such as
scissors, markers, crayons and ext.).
Items borrowed need to be returned to
where they belong when done. Students
will have a sign out sheet that records
what they take from this area.
Drinking fountain: Students will be able
to have water bottles to avoid drinking
fountain breaks. If they absolutely need
water there will be a pass by the door
that only one student at a time can go.
Sinks: Students will need to ask to leave
the room to use the sinks to wash their
hands. Germ killers gel will be available

on one of the open shelves for them to

use. Students may get up and get these
if needed.
Pencil Sharpener: Students may get up
to use the pencil sharpener as needed as
long as no one else is using the pencil
sharpener. It will be recommended to use
when no instruction is going on.
Students may use the room one at a time
to use the restroom. They will need to
take the Boys/Girls pass off the hook to
leave the room. They may not leave the
room during direct instruction or assigned
group work.
Students will be assigned to centers or
equipment areas. Everything will be
placed back in the same area as first
found it. Any materials that run out in a
center a student must notify the teacher.
Computer stations will be made available
as needed in the classroom. Students
will either be assigned time on the
computer or must ask to use the
computers. No liquid items ever by the
computer. Student must log off after they
are done using the computer. Push chairs
in after use in the area.
Students may not write on nor erase the
white boards unless directed by the
teacher.

Students will be allowed to talk at an
appropriate inside voice when working in
groups. They will also be able to talk
amongst each other when given
instruction for small talk. The volume will
need to stay at a minimum.
When students are working at their seats
and need help they will need to raise

other help within the room comes to help
them.
When individual work is completed and
ready to be turned in students will turn
work into a crate that is placed in open
storage area. It will expected that work is
completed on time and if not, student will
be asked to stay in for recess for it.

Returning to the room

Ending the day

At the beginning of every day the

teacher will announce the date and what
is for lunch. The teacher will also take
attendance and the pledge of allegiance
will be said.
When leaving the classroom it will
always be asked to line up at the door.
The class will not leave until everyone is
quiet and in one row so they do not
interrupt other classrooms that are in
session.
When returning to the room as a class
students will be asked to go directly with
inside voices to their seats and get out
the material that will be need for the
next instruction that will be given.
At the end of every day student will

make sure they have all of their material

that needs to be taken home in their
take home folder. They will clean up
their desks and make sure everything
throughout the room is cleaned up or
will not be able to leave. When teacher
feels room and students are ready to go
they will be asked to line up at the door
to leave for the day and go to their
lockers and get their belongings.

you post
assignments?

What will be your

standards for form
and neatness?

How will students

makeup assignments?

What will be the

displaying what assignments are due in
each class. The students will copy that
down into their planners.
Students will be expected to write

When working on equations they need
to use another piece of paper and show
work. Everything should be in order and
name on every assignment.
If a student is absent from school and
has to complete work they will have
three days to complete the work. If they
do not have the work done by taking it
home by the second day after being

Monitoring Progress on and Completion of Assignment

What procedures will

you use to monitor
work in progress for
individuals?
What procedure will
you use to monitor
work in progress for
groups?
How will you
determine whether
students are
completing
assignments?
How will you manage
completed
assignments?

Will students keep

portfolios? If so, how
will entries be
selected, and how will
students reflect on
them?
What records of
student work will you
retain?

I will monitor progress by circulating

around the room and check students
progress periodically.
I will monitor them by checking on the
rest of the class between each group.

I will have an assignment chart in a

binder that records what students
complete the assignments. Giving
students a check if they are done.
If students have all work completed at
the end of the week they will receive a
15 minute recess. If they do not have
what should be done they will stay
inside and work.
Students will provide a portfolio. They
will show the work they complete from
the beginning to the final completion of
assignment.

I will have each student own a binder. In

this binder I will have them place
selected assignments in so that it shows
the completed work that is done. This
binder will also be used to show the

parents.
I will encourage them that they will
monitor their work by placing their work
in the binder. I will let them know by
doing this they will be able to look back
on what they learn throughout the year.

Feedback

What are your

schools grading
policies and
procedures?
What kinds of
feedback will you
provide, and when?
How will you
encourage students to
reflect on their own
progress?
What will you do when
a student stops doing
assignments?

What procedure will

you follow to share
work with parents?

How will you handle

grading disputes?

I will study them and form my policies

around them.

I will provide timely feedback. They will

be able to see what they did incorrectly.
I will allow students to reflect on their
work by having the opportunity to earn
half the points back if they correct it the
right way.
If a student stop doing assignment I will
first talk with student and try to get
them on task. If this does not work I will
refer student to office and contact
parents.
I will make sure student share work with
parent by having students take
completed work how for parents to sign
and then return to school.
I will handle grading disputes by
allowing student to redo assignments
and earn extra credit.

You will have 8 sections with a total of 49 items when you are done.

This will be due Tues. Feb. 17th. Submit to D2L.
