Preparation of Bbs

This document provides guidance on preparing bar bending schedules (BBS) for reinforcement bars in concrete structures. It discusses marking members and drawings, calculating bar quantities, shapes, and weights. Methods for creating BBS include manual, software, and CAD programs. Tips are given for reading rebar drawings carefully, following codes, optimizing bar usage, avoiding congested laps, and installing templates to check bar bender work. Examples of regular and bar coupler BBS are included.

PREPARATION OF BBS

BBS
Mark and location of the member.
Drawing reference.
No of members.
Bar type.
Bar size.
Cutting bar length.
No of bars per member.
Total no of bars.
Total weight of bars.
Shape sketch.
Remarks if any.

METHODS
Manual.
Software ( BBS& Optimisation)
CAD RC- AMAOR France
Steel pac.
Informatica Italy
Go software Italy.

READING REBAR DRG

Read the notes carefully before reading any
reinforcement detail.
All the cross reference drgs to be read before
making BBS.
No lapping allowed for bars beyond 36 mm dia.
In the absence of data like cover, lap length
and development length, hook length, follow
the IS 2502-1963 and concurrence from
client/consultant.

GENERAL SHAPES

CRITICAL RADIUS
LESS THAN THIS RADII, REQUIRE BARS TO BE BENT TO SHAPE

TIPS
Follow the relevant client approved codes.
In absence of the code, follow IS 25021963.Code of practice for Bending and
fixing bars for Concrete Reinforcement.
For complicated shapes make mockup.
Always supply bbs to the workers with
small sketches.
For lapping two different dia bars, lap
length be considered for lower dia.

TIPS
Optimize to use the offcuts and full length bars
without wastage.
Additional allowance to be taken while using bar
couplers.
Check the position of laps-which may lead to
congestion or problems in placing.
Do not forget to add chairs.
Do not forget to add spacers.
Do not position laps in beam col junctions.
Do not position laps in the midspan of the beam.

TIPS -YARD
Install template
shapes of rings in the
yard.
Periodical checking
with the templates
by the barbenders.
Conduct periodical
checks for the bar
benders.

TIPS
The crank shape
for the bars greater
than 12 dia as per
the sketch shown
unless noted. The
slope shall not be
more than 1 in 6.

1 in 6 (max)
