Variable Electrical Signals

The document defines key terms related to variable electrical signals including period, frequency, amplitude, and time. It then provides examples of calculating these values from sample waveforms. Specifically, it calculates the period, frequency, and amplitude of a waveform with a period of 20ms. It also calculates the frequency for a waveform with a period of 1.4ms and the period for a waveform with a frequency of 350Hz.

VARIABLE ELECTRICAL

SIGNALS
By: Kyle & Rebecca

DEFINE PERIOD

The length of time in seconds that the wave form takes to repeat
itself from start to finish

DEFINE FREQUENCY

The number of times the waveform repeats itself within a one

second time period
Frequency =

1/ time period X 1000

DEFINE AMPLITUDE

The magnitude or intensity of the signal waveform measured in

volts or amps.

DEFINE TIME

The time required for the current or voltage in a circuit to rise or

fall.

QUESTION #1:

GIVEN THE WAVE FORM BELOW, CALCULATE THE

VARIOUS ELECTRICAL PARAMETERS (PERIOD, FREQUENCY, AMPLITUDE)

Period:
= 1/50 = 0.02X1000 =20ms
Frequency:
= 1/20 = 0.5 X 1000= 50hz
Amplitude:
= 6 volts

QUESTION#2

DETERMINE THE FREQUENCY OF A

WAVEFORM HAVING A PERIOD OF 1.4 MILLISECONDS (1.4 MS)

Frequency:
= 1/1.4 = 0.7X1000
= 714.29

QUESTION#3

IF AN AC VOLTAGE HAS A
FREQUENCY OF 350 HZ, HOW LONG (IN TIME) IS ITS
PERIOD (REMEMBER T IS THE INVERSE OF F)?

Time period:
= 1/350 = 0.00286X1000
= 2.857
