Assess: Explore and identify your top skills, interests, values, and professional goals.
 Question: How will these translate to your resume, search, and interview?
 Action Item: Contact the DePaul Career Center to schedule a meeting with a career advisor.

Research: Explore occupations, industries, and trends in your field.


 Question: Are you widening your perspective to all traditional and non-traditional occupation possibilities
within your field?
 Action Item: Review library internet directories, online resource guides, search engines, and industry niche
websites. Go to the Career Center’s Job Search Quick Stop.

Prepare: Update all of your job searching documents including your tailored resume, portfolio, and cover letters.


 Question: Did you translate your skills and interests to achievements and evidence of accomplishments?
 Action Item: Take advantage of DePaul’s Resume Drive Thru, portfolio workshops, and
peer-advisor walk-in hours.

Review: Create a list of all your networking contacts from academic, internship, volunteer and social connections.


 Question: Have you explored all of your direct and indirect relationships ranging from family,
academia, alumni, and professional contacts?
 Action Item: Attend a Career Center Networking Skills Workshop, meet with a career advisor, and
reach out to ASK mentors through http://ask.depaul.edu.


Explore: Take the lead in reviewing options, opportunities, and perspectives through informational interviews with
DePaul Alumni, employers, and networking leads.
 Question: Have you identified your networking goals and questions to ask?
 Action Item: Explore the ASK mentor database and DePaul networking events, and participate in
company presentations and on-campus interviewing.


Practice: Practice and refine your interviewing skills with professionals.
 Question: Have you incorporated your self-assessment and research into your preparation?
 Action Item: Participate in the Interview Skills Workshop and schedule practice interviews with
ASK mentors through http://depaul.eRecruiting.com.

Search: Attend Job fairs, apply to positions through company and niche industry job sites, send inquiry cover letters


and resumes to companies of interest, and join professional networking sites such as LinkedIn and Twitter.
 Question: Have you created a list of target organizations that you can actively connect with through
job boards, networking, and organization HR websites?

and other events.

Organize: Stay on top of your job search by creating networking/job searching logs and continually follow up
with networking contacts and relationship building.
 Question: Have you explored other ways to stay connected with networking contacts through volunteer,
social functions, and other events?
 Action Item: Attend the Job Search and How to Work a Job Fair Workshops to get tips and gather
helpful worksheets to keep yourself organized.
