The Wedding Rehearsal

1 Arrange rehearsal
1.1 Couple to Bring marriage schedule and orders of service
1.2 Phone call with couple to check Time
1.3 People needing to be there
2 Prepare the church
2.1 Set out kneelers at Sanctuary Rail and Pulpit area
2.2 Place table near wedding vows area for books
2.3 Set up mic stand if required
3 Welcome couple to pulpit area
3.1 Gather all the names and write or memorise them
4 Locate party for vows
4.1 Place bride in middle of aisle with groom and parent on either side
4.2 Create a Loose arc of people with access to seats for children
4.3 Ensure best man and groomsman know of role with kneeler
4.4 Identify HOW the bridesmaids get to their location
4.5 Ask couple if everything looks ok so far
5 Check order of service
5.1 Check any bible readers know where to read and when, usually get
both to move together during music to the lectern.
5.2 Options for marrying first, bible first, hymn first etc.
5.3 Note need to have hands free of flowers and orders for the vows
to follow
5.4 Ask couple if everything looks OK so far
6 Move to Sanctuary Rail
6.1 Very brief rehearsal of walk to rail
6.2 Ask couple if everything is OK so far.
6.3 Encourage participation in responses from the participants to lead the
congregation
6.4 Invite everyone to join couple in vestry or at signing table

6.5 Parents stay in couples before the signing, mix up as they leave
the signing
6.6 Set up leaving party and inform of photographer licence from
here onwards
6.7 Return to pulpit area to sit and ask for further questions
7 Rehearse vows
7.1 WILL YOU
7.1.1 Couple looks at clergy to answer
7.1.2 Take hand from parent and bow to dismiss

7.2 DO YOU
7.2.1 Hold partners hand meaningfully
7.2.2 Couple look at each other and repeat full vow

7.4.1 Lift hands (using stole) for this declaration

7.5 KNEEL
7.6 SUPPORT
7.6.1 Inform of possible turn to face the congregation and possible applause etc.

7.7 Ask couple if everything is OK so far

8.2 Envelopes for organ verger and church to be given to the verger on
the day
8.3 Flowers may be left in by arrangement with verger
8.4 Final check that they have spoken to the organist recently
9 Rehearse the entry
9.1 Invite congregation to stand as a cue for men
9.2 Put men in their waiting seat
