4-3-1. Criteria on Cooling Fresh Water

4-3-2. Selection of and Control on Corrosion Inhibitor
(1) Add a corrosion inhibitor to cooling fresh water because use of fresh water causes a drop in strength
of parts and the cooling effect through corrosion of water chamber and adhering of scale,
(@) Select a corrosion inhibitor which doss not have an adverse effect on parts of the cooling water sys-
‘tem because parts made of cast iron, carbon steel, brass and bronze, are used in the cooling water
system of an engine.

In the case where aluminum materials are used in the cooling water system, consult the supplier of
Corrosion inhibitor because a kind of corrosion inhibitor to be used dlifers in this case.
* As to the adding quantity of and concentration control on corrosion inhibitor and addition and han-
dling of supplementary adjuster, obey the oriteria Set by the supplier of corrosion inhibitor.
* In the case where the concentration af corrosion inhibitor could not be controled, annually change
‘the cooling water by the total volume,
‘® Do nat dump cooling water to which the corrosion inhibitor was added directly to the ooean or river.
‘Since the method of treating the waste liquor has been provided for in the law, such liquid has to
be treated according to instructions given by the supplier of corrosion inhibitor.
® Do not mix different brands of corresion inhibitor. (In the case where mixing of different brands of
‘corrosion inhibitor is unavoidable, consul the suppliers of corrosion inhibitor.
@A corrosion inhibitor is chemical for industrial water treatment use; do not use it in the drinking
water line.
@ Wher handling, wear rubber gloves and gauze mask to avoid direct contact with hands or other
parts of the body.

‘In the case where the cooling water system is of the enclosed circuit specification, consult the sup-
plier of corrasion inhibitor because some brands drop in the concentration of corrosion inhibitor early.
+ Notice @ corrosion inhibtor which doubles as an antifreeze has @ low thermal conductivity and may
bo overheated during 2 toad running.
As a simplified method of cooling water concentration control, i is suggested to replace the cooling
water (added with rust inhibitor in total volume with the new one periodically

vary depending on the operating conditions of the engine.
+ Ask your lubricating oil supplier to:
+ Make an analysis ofthe lubricating oil
Make a decision whether you can continue using the oil or not.

For the analysis, take an oll sample of 500 cc or more. Take it from the drain plug of the lubricating oll fiter
immediately after engine stop.
+ Ask the lubricating oll maker for a spot test kit. Use ito find the remaining total base number, degree of
contamination and cleaning dispersion.
+ Ifyou cannot make an assessment: Maintain an oil level of 1.96 VKW and replace all lubricating oll after
‘approximately 1,500 hours.

VIBRATION INSULATOR MOUNTING BOLTS OF THE CONMON BED PLATE SIDE AND
THE ENGINE BED SIDE.

B, Manual Synchronizing
Please be careful at synchronizing of each generator during on board test or normal
operating as follows.
1) Check that incoming generator voltage level and frequency in its no-load condition
is correct.
2) After rotating the synchronizing switch to the "ON" position, please check the
condition of the synchroscope pointer, and adjust the speed of the incoming
Engine/Generator until it is rotating slowly to clockwise direction (no more than
1 revolution / 20 seconds).
3) The incoming generator breaker should be closed as close to the 12 o'clock
position as possible.
if generator breaker is closed at conditions other than the above, the
generator excitation system (Diodes, Varistors, Transformer ...) & rotor
or stator can be damaged by transient reactive current.[2015-01-17]
