1. Computer
A computer is a programmable machine. A
computer responds to a specific set of
instructions in a well-manor and it performs
rerecorded instructions.
2. Desktop
A desktop portrays file systems. A desktop
has icons, files, folders and lots of different
files.
3. Icon
A small picture or logo that represents a
program or object.
4. Shortcut
A unique type of file in some operating
systems and it leads to another file or
device.
5. Taskbar
A toolbar at the bottom of your desktop that
lets you switch between different
applications, and opening new applications.
6. Wallpaper
A pattern or picture on your desktop behind
all the icons and taskbar.
7. Hardware
The parts of the computer you can actually
touch such as the monitor, keyboard and
mouse.
8. Software
Computer data and instructions.
9. CPU
Short for Central Processing Unit. Acts as the
brain of the computer, this is where most
calculations take place.
10.
Modem
A device or program that enables a computer
to transmit data over.
11.
Peripheral
Computer devices such as a mouse,
keyboards and printers.
12.
Input Device
Any machine that transfers data into the
computer such as the mouse and keyboard.
(When you type on the keyboard, the letters
you press transfer that data into the
computer, it inputs the information)
13.
Output Device
Any machine that can represent information
from a computer such as a monitor (A
monitor displays information on the
computer, It outputs the information and
represents it so we can see it)
14.
CD-RW
Stands for CD-Rewritable, its a type of disk
that lets you write onto it in multiple
sessions.
15.
DVD-R
Stands for DVD-Recordable. It records data
once and once recorded its permanently
saved on the disc.
16.
Byte
Unit of storage of holding a single character.
17.
RAM
Stands for Random Access Memory, its a
type of computer memory that can be
accessed randomly.
18.
ROM
Stands for Read Only Memory. Its the
computer hardware that stores programs and
data that cant be added to, modified, edited
or deleted.
19.
Word Processor
A program or machine for storing,
manipulating, and formatting text entered
from a keyboard and providing a printout.
20.
Formatting
The arrangement of data for the document
number and size of fields in a record or the
spacing and punctuation of information in a
document.
21.
Title bar
A bar on top of a window. Shows the name of
the file or application.
22.
Menu Bar
This bar displays the headings for each dropdown menu. Commands are grouped under
each of these menu headings according to
function such as File, Insert and View.
23.
Font
A font is the combination of typeface and
other qualities, such as size, pitch, and
spacing. Is a typeface that defines the shape
of each character. There are many fonts to
choose from -- different sizes, italic, bold, and
so on.

Portrait
Orientation
A page with portrait orientation is taller than
it is wide.

Landscape
Orientation
A page with landscape orientation is wider
than it is tall.

Margins
The area between the main content of a
page and the page edges.

Indent
Indent is used to describe the distance, or
number of blank spaces used to separate a
paragraph from the left or right margins.

Bullets
Bullet is an asterisk, black dot, circle, or
other mark that is found before the text that
identifies key items or other important text.

Columns
A column is a vertical series of cells in a
chart, table, or spreadsheet.

Justify
In word processing, to align text along the
left and right margins.
31.
Alignment
Used to describe text, the arrangement of
text or graphics relative to a margin.

Desktop
Publishing
Using a personal computer or workstation to
make high-quality printed documents.

Graphics
Refers to an image or anything that makes a
computer capable of displaying and
manipulating pictures.

Design Elements
How you make use of colors, space, texture,
and other components in an artistic
representation.
35.
Text Box
A specified area where you can insert
content such as text, or pictures. This area
can also be expanded or shrunk down.

Text Art
Making images with the use of text/text
symbols.

Spreadsheet
Software program capable of performing
many calculations, functions, graphs.

Worksheet
A single spreadsheet that has cells organized
by rows and columns.

Cell
Usually text, a numeric value or a formula of
data imputed.

Row
A Row of Cells (horizontal).

Column
A Column of Cells (vertical).

Cell Address
A cell address has a column indicator and a
row number to identify the cell.

Range
One or more contiguous cells.

Label
Descriptive text placed in a cell.
45.
Value
The numeric value placed inside a cell.

Formula
An expression or an equation. In terms of
excel, an expression that defines how one
cell relates to other excels

Electronic
Presentation
A presentation that contains words, texts,
images etc. anything that a regular
presentation would have but it is on a
technological device such as a computer.

Slide
A single page in a PowerPoint that contains
info and the elements of art, design, text,
images, videos etc.

Transition
The movement from one slide to another
slide in PowerPoint. This can be customized
to your preference.

Animation
Scheme
In PowerPoint, this feature allows you to add
visual effects to paragraphs, bulleted items
and titles from a variety of animation
groupings.

Internet Web
Browser
A software application for retrieving,
presenting, and traversing information
resources on the World Wide Web.

Hyperlink
A feature in an electronic document that
links to another place in the same document
or to a different document.
53.
World Wide Web
A system of Internet servers that support
specially formatted documents. The
documents are formatted in a markup
language called HTML.
54.
Search Engine
Programs that search for documents using
the key words that are provided, and then
comes with up with a result of documents
that seem the best fitted to the key words.

E-Mail
Messages sent and received by electronic
means from one computer user to one or
more recipients via a network.

Netiquette
The etiquette guidelines for posting
messages to online services and especially
Internet newsgroups.

Emoticon
Pre-set facial expressions or image, either
formed by different symbols or not that are
used in electronic communications as an
easier way for the users to express their
feelings.

Domain Name
The part of a network address that identifies
it as belonging to a particular domain.

Web Surfing
To navigate through the World Wide Web or
Internet using a mouse.
60.
Ethics
Moral principles that control a person's or
group's behavior.
61.
Utilitarian View
System of ethics in which the right or wrong
of an action should be judged on what the
consequences are.
62.
Deontology View
System of ethics in which the right or wrong
of an action should be based on whether that
action itself is right or wrong under a series
of rules.
63.
Piracy
Stealing someone else's intellectual property
without giving them credit, this can occur
online with music, software programs, videos
etc.
64.
Copyright
The legal right granted from the owner of the
content to someone else (artist, producer
etc.)
65.
Patent
The exclusive right granted by the
government, to make use of an invention or
process for a certain amount of time.
66.
Spam
Electronic junk mail or junk newsgroup
postings, or even irrelevant e-mails
continuously being sent.
67.
Virus
A program or piece of code that is loaded
onto your computer without you knowing and
runs even if you dont want it to, or it may
even damage your computer permanently.
68.
Phishing
An email that is sent (which is false) claiming
to be a legitimate enterprise so it can get the
user to give out their personal information to
them for identity theft.
69.
Pharming
Tries to obtain the personal and private
information of a user through domain
spoofing.
70.
Ergonomics
The science of safe, comfortable and healthy
way for a human to use a computer by them
checking their equipment, posture etc. at
their computer.

RSI
Stands for Repetitive Strain Injury, and its
caused by repeating the same small
movements continuously.
72.
MSI
Stands for Medium-Scale Integration. It is an
integrated circuit that contains between 30
and 1,000 electronic components on a single
chip.
73.
CSR
Stands for Corporate Social Responsibility. It
is the voluntary activities undertaken by a
company to operate in an economic, social
and environmentally manner.

E-Waste
Short for Electronic Waste. Used to describe
old, end-of-life or discarded appliances using
electricity.
