1. Computer
Is a machine that is programmable.
2. Desktop
Is where file trees are shown, such as files, icons, pictures,
folders, and documents.
3. Icon
A picture that shows a program or thing.
4. Shortcut
A special file which can conveniently be placed on the
desktop because it allows you to have an easier path way to
certain folders, or programs.
5. Taskbar
An application which lets you open different windows and
switch between them easily
6. Wallpaper
A backdrop for the desktop, where its files, folders, and
documents, will be displayed upon.
7. Hardware
Things which you can physically touch that belong to a
computer.
8. Software
Things which direct the computer in what to do, or
information. Anything stored on a computer can be
identified as software.
9. CPU
Stands for Central Processing Unit, and is a
chip inside of the computer which is
considered to be the brain of the computer.
10.
Modem
A peripheral card which allows the transfer of
data over lines to other computers.
11.
Peripheral
A device which is connected to a computer in some way.
Whether it be something which is within the computer or
not.
12.
Input Device
Any machine which feeds data into a computer.
13.
Output Device
Any machine which can represent information from a
computer.

CD-RW
CD-ReWritable is a type of disk which allows you to be
able to write onto it in multiple sessions.
15.
DVD-R
DVD-Recordable is like DVD-RW but it can only be
written on with data once, then it is stored permanently.
16.
Byte
A unit of storage capable of holding a single character. One
byte is equal to eight bits.
17.
RAM
Stands for Random Access Memory, and it
holds the data and program instructions the
CPU works with. Along with this, it also brings
temporary memory storage within the
computer.

ROM
Stands for Read-Only Memory, and it holds
the instructions the computer needs to
function. It also gives the computer
information about its hardware and devices.

Word Processor
A program which allows users to input data and create
documents, which can be used for a variety of things.

Formatting
When encoding information onto a file or document.

Title bar
The bar on top of a window which shows the
name of the application or file.
22.
Menu Bar
A horizontal menu which shows up at the top of a window,
and it usually contains submenus for different things.

Font
A design set for your written characters. There are many
different types of fonts you have the choice of choosing
from.

Portrait
Orientation
Describes a type of page where its length is longer than its
width.

Landscape
Orientation
Describes a type of page where its width is longer than its
length.

Margins
The strips of white space on the edge of a word document,
which you can specify to your liking.
27.
Indent
Used to identify the amount of blank space or amount of
returns used at the beginning of a paragraph, to identify it
as a new paragraph.

Bullets
A small graphic design used to list information.
29.
Columns
A vertical area designed for text, usually used for news
articles. Can access this function by using the word toolbar.

To align text from the left to right margins of a page.

Describes how text or graphics are positioned in respect to
margins.

Is when you use a computer and special

A box into which you can write text.

that can perform and create calculations, functions, and
graphs.

A page created in a spreadsheet program.

Cell
A box which you can enter data in. An entire spreadsheet is
made of these cells.

Numbered horizontal groups of cells in a spreadsheet.

Column
A vertical row of cells in a spreadsheet thats identified by
letters.

Cell Address
The coordinates to specific cells on a
worksheet in a spreadsheet programs.

Range
One or more continuous cells.

Label
Any descriptive text placed in a cell on a spreadsheet.

Value
The text, date or number inputted to complete a condition a
field must meet for searching or filtering. Or the value
inputted into a cell in a spreadsheet.

An equation or expression used to input data
into cells.

A type of software which allows you to catch

A view which creates helpful and positive
actions.

thinking about this actions consequences.

When users obtain and use programs and
software without paying for it.

Copyright
The legal power given to authors and
creators which dictates who can use,
distribute, and publish their work.

Patent
A right given by the government which
allows an inventor or manufacturer to sell
their product for a certain number of years.

Spam
Electronic junk mail, which are usually used
for advertisements.
67.
Virus
A computer program or code which harms
your computer when its loaded onto it
without your knowledge.

Phishing
An email which is sent to a user saying that
its from a person or company to get the user
to surrender personal information, when its
actually a hoax.

Pharming
When web domains pose as other true
websites, to gain personal and financial
information.

Ergonomics
The study of workers interactions with their
work environment.

RSI
Stands for Repetitive Strain Injury, which is
when you repeatedly perform the same
action over and over again to the point
where you gain an injury due to it.

MSI
A range of disorders and injuries
encompassing the muscle and skeletal
components of the human body, which can
also be referred to as RSI.

CSR
Stands for Corporate Social Responsibility,
and it deals with the social, economic, and
environmental aspects of being a company.

Stands for electronic waste and it encompass
the all the waste caused by the remains of
