Teacher Words
Hope everyone is doing well. This week will be short but full of events.
To begin Sebastian and Sofia Chamizo moved on to represent our class in the
the 5th grade round. Both did an amazing job. Unfortunately, we could only
choose three from all five 5th grade classes. Fortunately, Sofia will move on.
Thank you to Sebastian for doing such a great job. Congratulations Sofia!
We also took our Chapter 3 math assessment. Students are improving quite a
bit. Please ask them to show you their test. The first page informs us of the
standards that they missed and that need continuous review. They will have a
chance to improve their grade after the multiplication of decimals unit.
Enjoy your four day weekend!

Hot Topic

We are continuing to work on

summarizing literary text.
We are starting to read Witch of
Blackbird Pond. We will be
addressing inferring, comparing
characters, settings and events to
address theme.

Half of the clubs are working on

their power points and will be
ready to present. The other half
are working on finishing up their
books while they converse for
understanding. Power-points are
done on their one drive so they are
all working simultaneous.

Hot Topic articles will mostly be in

Spanish. Most will be at their lexile
level when available. I have gone
over the expectations. It should be
done within 45 min. I have
stretched out the amount of work
to be done by one day in
comparison to the other 5th grade
classes.

Math

Science

Historia

This week we have begun our unit on

multiplying decimals. We will be working on
patterns and multiplying decimals by
powers of ten and by whole numbers.
For homework students will begin to have a
problem from the Go Math workbook and
IXL. The time for IXL will be lessened but
they still need to provide 3-5 models to
show their work. The purpose of adding the
workbook is to provide more opportunity
for them to explain their work since this is
what they need more practice on.

We will continue with our

matter unit. The reading
part will be in Spanish
since we will start reading
our shared reading in
English. We will be doing
investigation that will be in
English to reinforce their
understandings.

We are done with explorer. Our

next unit will be in two weeks. We
will begin the unit of Colonies.
