Electronics Lab Handouts 2016

The document provides instructions for an electronics lab involving operational amplifiers and amplifiers. It is divided into two experiments. Experiment 1 involves constructing an adder circuit and integrator circuit using operational amplifiers. Experiment 2 involves implementing a common-emitter amplifier and measuring the voltage gain at varying input frequencies. Groups of 6-7 students will complete the circuits and turn in working models, simulations, and results. Labs meet on Saturdays and Mondays.

Electronic Circuits - Lab Handouts

Regulations
The class should be divided into groups of (6-7) students. You are restricted
to your own sections.
No more than 8 groups are allowed in each lab period.
The Lab timings are as following:
1. Saturday- 1st period.
2. Saturday- 2nd period.
3. Monday- 1st period.
Labs will begin next week (Sat. 5/3 ). Each section will have a new Lab every
two weeks. Odd sections will begin their Labs on the next week (beginning with
Sat. 5/3 ), and even sections will begin on the week after (beginning with Sat.
12/3).

Each group of students will deliver the following on their Lab timings:
1. A fully functional circuit, for which requirements are specified in the
following sections, so connect your circuit as you will test it during
the lab period and then deliver the circuit at the end of the lab.
2. A simulation for the circuit using any simulation software (ex: Multisim).
Students should hand over a hard copy of the drawn schematic, and
resultant figures and graphs.
Those who will deliver a circuit on a PCB will receive a bonus.

Experiment 1 OpAmp Applications

It is needed to construct two circuits which utilizes the Operational Amplifier, namely
the "Adder" circuit (Figure 1) and the "Integrator" circuit (Figure 2). Connect the
circuits as shown in Figures. You may use any IC that you find suitable (e.g., IC 741).

Experiment 2 Amplifiers
It is required to implement a Common-Emitter amplifier. You need to draw the
relation between amplifier voltage gain Gv = vo/vi and the input frequency.
1. Connect the circuit as shown in Figure 3.
2. Adjust the input sine wave level to 20mV (peak-peak) value on the CRO.
3. Keeping the input level constant, raise the input frequency from 50Hz up
to 500kHz. At each frequency record the output level (at least 20 readings).
4. Draw the relation between voltage gain Gv and frequency.
