DST
Drill Stem Testing DST measures the Initial/Average reservoir
pressure at a certain datum.
The data obtained from DST is the Pressure and Temp. Vs Time.
The data obtained from DST is the Pressure and Temp. Vs Time.
The benefits of using this tool are:
- Measure the Average Reservoir Pressure and static reservoir
pressure.
- by performing Pressure Build Up PBU and Draw Down DD we
can calculate the well productivity and draw IPR curve
- Determine the Skin Factor.
- Detect the reservoir boundary/s if any
- Drainage radius.
- Average reservoir permeability.
- Collect surface recombined sample.
- Calculate the reservoir heterogeneity.
DST
DST vs MDT
If reservoir engineer is interested to get reservoir pressure point by
point they use MDT. And also MDT can provide detailed information
in the very near wellbore region
DST is usually being used to evaluate the reservoir productivity and
and well is allowed to flow for a short time. DST can provided
averaged data deeper into the reservoir.
MDT doesn't flow hydrocarbons to surface, so no flaring or disposal
is required.
MDT is limited on the kms of investigation, however you can get a
rough estimate of the perm, can get a representative sample of
fluid and initial reservoir pressure but you cant determine limits or
reservoir frontiers/ faults etc with an MDT
DST will allow you to perform a 15-30 days (normal duration) and
flow the interest zone with different chokes, and with that will allow
you to see avg permeability on a much extended radio (kms), initial
reservoir pressure, limits, faults, see if the reservoir is water driven
or gas driven and take representative samples.
