There are three ways to power off an AS400 server: immediate power off by entering "PWRDWNSYS" at the command line and selecting *IMMED; delayed power off using the "GOVPOWER" command to schedule a future shutdown time; and powering on the server requires verifying the front display reads "01 B N" before pressing the power button.

Power ON/OFF the iSeries (AS400) Server

INTRODUCTION

There are 3 sections to these sets of instructions:


How to perform an immediate power down.
How to perform a delayed power down
How to powering up your AS400

Immediate Power OFF

o Type in the following instruction at a command line:


PWRDWNSYS and press <F4>

The following screen will appear:

Type choices, press Enter.

How to end . . . . . . . . . . . *IMMED *CNTRLD, *IMMED


Delay time, if *CNTRLD . . . . . 3600 Seconds, *NOLIMIT
Restart options:
Restart after power down . . . *NO *NO, *YES
Restart type . . . . . . . . . *IPLA *IPLA, *SYS, *FULL
IPL source . . . . . . . . . . . *PANEL *PANEL, A, B, D

Bottom
F3=Exit F4=Prompt F5=Refresh F10=Additional parameters F12=Cancel
F13=How to use this display F24=More keys

o Ensure the “How to end” parameter is set to *IMMED.


o Restart options. If you wish to restart the system automatically after powering
down ensue that the parameter to “Restart after power down” is set to *YES
otherwise leave as *NO.
o Press <ENTER>.

Delayed Power down

o Type in the following instruction at a command line:


GOVPOWER and press <ENTER>
? Take option 2.
? Enter the power up time on the left side of the screen and the power down
time on the right. The time is recorded in military format i.e. 8:00 pm is 20:00.

HOW TO . . .

Powering up your AS400

Before you power up the AS400, you must check the front display of the AS400
to see that the value “01 B N” is displayed.

? When the display says “01 B N”, press the white power button.

If the display does not say “01 B N”, call Support and they will walk you through
changing this value before powering up.
