Introduction To The Old Testament

The Old Testament contains 4 major divisions - the Pentateuch (first 5 books of Moses), Historical Books, Wisdom Literature, and Prophetical Books. The Pentateuch consists of Genesis (origins of the universe, world, and mankind), Exodus (the Israelites' departure from Egypt), Leviticus (Levitical laws and holiness of God), Numbers (census of Israel), and Deuteronomy (Moses' discourses before entering Canaan). Each was written by multiple authors over centuries but share the overarching narrative of God's relationship with the Israelites.
