PIA was established in 1955 by merging Orient Airways with the government of Pakistan. The vision is to be a world class airline exceeding customer expectations through dedicated employees committed to excellence. The mission is to make PIA the airline of choice globally by offering quality service, innovation, and ensuring cost effectiveness. Competitors include Airblue, which offers domestic and international flights from Pakistan, and Shaheen Air, the second national carrier of Pakistan. Research was conducted through surveys in Karachi to analyze customer preferences and perceptions of PIA. Hypotheses regarding choice of airline, aspects that attract customers, price perceptions, and customer service were tested and some were supported by actual results.
