Example of Graphs: F (X) X + 8x + 16 F (X) - X + 2x + 5

This document outlines the steps to sketch graphs of quadratic functions: determine the shape based on the leading coefficient, find the maximum/minimum point by completing the square, find the axis of symmetry, determine the position using b^2 - 4ac, find x-intercepts by setting the function equal to 0 and y-intercept by setting x equal to 0, then sketch the graph. It then works through sketching the graphs of f(x) = -2x^2 + 4x - 6 and f(x) = x^2 - 2x - 8 as examples and provides exercises to sketch the graphs of f(x) = x^2 + 2x - 6 and f(x) = 2x

Sketching Graphs of Quadratic Function

A quadratic function graph can be sketched by following the

steps given below.
Step 1: Determine the shape of the graph based on the
value of a.
Step 2: Determine the maximum or minimum point by
completing the square.
Step 3: Determine the axis of symmetry.
Step 4: Determine the position of the graph by calculating
the value of b2-4ac
Step 5: Determine the x-intercept (if it exists by letting
f(x) = 0) and the y-intercept (by letting x=0).
Step 6: Mark all the points and sketch the graph.
