ATS Online Client Computer GCC

This document provides hardware, software, and settings recommendations for computers used to take online exams through the ATS Online client. It recommends a minimum of 512MB RAM, 100MB free hard drive space, Windows XP or Vista with latest service packs, fully installed Office 2007 or below with latest service packs, Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, and a broadband internet connection of at least 250kbps. It also lists important settings for all testing computers such as installing latest support files, setting correct time zone and format, enabling macros, adding the website as a trusted site, and enabling pop-ups. Additional steps are provided for Windows Vista and Arabic exams.

ATS Online Client Computers Settings

Hardware/Software Recommended Specifications


Intel Pentium IV or higher with 512 MB RAM as a minimum.
100 MB free Hard Drive space
MS Windows XP/Vista (with latest Service Pack installed)
MS Office XP/2003/2007 fully installed (with latest Service Pack installed)
MS Internet Explorer v6.0 or higher
Connected to the Internet through a Broad Band connection with a minimum bandwidth of 250 Kbps
per computer.

Important Settings for ALL testing computers:


To Install the latest ATSOnline Support Files login to :

Go to Help page.
If you have Windows Vista, then you have to follow the steps related to this section at the end of this
document.
Set the correct Time Zone according to your country (i.e. (GMT +4:00) AbuDhabi, Muscat)

Set Time Format as 24-Hours (HH:mm:ss)

Set Short Date Format as (dd/MM/yyyy)

A Print driver needs to be loaded on all testing computers. (A physical print device is not required)
Set Macro Security in Microsoft Access to Medium as a maximum
Go to Tools Menu  Macro  Security  Select Medium.
If you have Office 2007 then you have to go to Access Options  Trust Center  Trust Center
Settings Macro Settings  Enable All Marcos
Add *.litmuslink.com to the Trusted Sites zone in Internet Options.
Go to Internet Options  Security Tab  Sites button  click Add & Close.
Enable Pop-ups from for the website *.litmuslink.com
Go to Tools  Internet Options  Privacy tab  Settings button  type the website  Click Add
 Close  OK.
Also disable any third party Pop Up Blocker (i.e. Google Toolbar, msn toolbar, etc).
The ActiveX settings should be configured as follows:
Go to Internet Options  Security Tab  Select Trusted Sites  Custom Level button:
Under ActiveX Controls and Plug ins

Download Signed ActiveX controls. Enable
- Download unsigned ActiveX controls. Prompt
- Initialize & script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting Prompt
- Run ActiveX controls & Plug ins Enable
- Script ActiveX controls marked as safe for scripting Enable
ATS Online Client Computers Settings

For Arabic ICDL exams:


Arabic Language Pack should be installed for Microsoft Office.
Language for non-Unicode must be set to Arabic
For Windows XP:
Go to Regional and Language Options Advanced tab  Select Arabic (KSA or Your Country).

Additional Options For Windows Vista:

Vista Business Edition is the version supported by ICDL

When installing the latest support files, you have to follow the below steps:
- Due to the enhanced security introduced in Windows Vista, the Support Files
uninstallation/installation needs to be done by logging in as Administrator.
- After uninstalling the ATS Online Support files, make sure to remove the folder C:\Program
Files\NCC Education\Online Support Files
- Install the latest support files. After installing the Support files through the Administrator
login, you can switch to another user with local admin rights for running the tests.
- If you login as a local user with admin rights, uncheck the box “Use User Account (UAC) to
help protect your computer”. This is done as follows:
Go to Control Panel  Choose User Accounts  Choose Turn User Account Control On
or Off  Uncheck the checkbox
- When the tests are run with local admin rights, the following IE settings change is required: Go
to Internet Explorer  Tools  Internet Options  Security  uncheck the protected
mode flag

For Arabic Exams Language for non-Unicode must be set to Arabic. This is done as follows:
Go to Regional and Language Options Administrative tab Select Change system locale 
Choose Arabic (Saudi Arabia or Your Country)
Add the website *.litmuslink.com to the Compatibility View Settings of the Internet Explorer. This is
done as follows:
Go to Tools  Compatibility View Settings  Add the website  Close
