Discussion groups jobs: Discussion Director facilitates the meeting Gift of Gab keeps the meeting going Questioner asks a lot of questions Vocabulary Enforcer introduces new words to the group Each job will rotate through the group members until the entire book has been read and discussed. This is not a literature circle, but a discussion group! Discussions or a conversation takes place about what has been read by group members. The Discussion Director should begin the discussion by first giving a short summary of what has been read. Ex. We have recently read the Forward and Ch. 1 of the book, The Corn Grows Ripe by Dorothy Rhoads. In the forward the author discussed Followed by Ch. 1, The Family where After the Discussion Director concludes; a discussion of what has been read should begin. Questioner should probably start by asking a question that they have written, although questions should be asked of all members and continuation questions should be included. Questions should stimulate conversation!

In other words questions should not have a one word answer, such asDid you enjoy reading this chapter? (Yes) This is not a question that would stimulate a discussion. Gift of Gab needs to pay attention carefully to the discussion taking place and if it begins to falter they should keep it going. Ex. I noticed Jason that you made a face like a frown when Stacy said that she was glad that Billy in the story was being sent to jail. Why did you do that? Do you disagree with her? Gift of Gab needs to pay attention and think outside the box. They help keep the conversation on task and going strong! But it is not only their job to do this! Finally the Vocabulary Enforcer locates the vocabulary words throughout the required reading to discuss with team members at the end of discussion. V.E. informs the team of words and their meanings then discuss why the author may have used that particular word in the story. 15 chapters broken down into the following eight segments: Forward and Ch. 1 Ch. 4 & 5 Ch. 8 & 9 Ch. 12 & 13 Ch. 2 & 3 Ch. 6 & 7 Ch. 10 & 11 Ch. 14 & 15
