Definition Types of research Research Design Research Process

DEFINITION:
Business Research An organized, systematic effort to investigate a specific problem with the purpose of finding answers or solutions to it.

Type of Business Research

APPLIED RESEARCH

To solve a current problem faced by a manager in a work place. Ex: the product not selling well, corrective action need to be taken

BASIC/ PURE RESEARCH

To generate the body of knowledge/ to enhance understanding of certain problems

THE RESEARCH DESIGN

EXPLORATORY

When not much is known about the situation at hand To better comprehend the nature of the problem To describe the characteristics of the variables of interest in a situation To delineate the cause of the problem

First stage- defining the problem Problem definition - the indication of a specific business decision area that will be clarified by answering research question - To set proper research objectives - Exploratory research

Second stage- planning research design Research design - master plan specifying the methods and procedures for collecting and analyzing the needed information.

Third stage- Planning a sample Sampling - Uses small number of items or a portion to make a conclusion regarding the whole population.

Fourth stage- collecting data Questionnaires, interview


Fifth stage- processing and analyzing data Editing and coding Sixth stage- Drawing conclusion Seventh stage- Preparing a report
