December 2011 For immediate release Students spread festive cheer
Leeds Metropolitan University students and staff have joined forces with the local business community to hold a Christmas party for senior citizens in Burmantofts on Tuesday 20 December.
The party will be held at St Agnes Church Hall, Burmantofts, from 1-3pm and has been funded by Business in the Community partners: Leeds Metropolitan, Emsleys Solicitors, Leeds City College and chartered accountants Grant Thornton.
The party will see more than 60 residents of Burmantofts, who may feel isolated during the Christmas period, enjoy festive food, entertainment and carol singing in what may be their only celebration this Christmas.
Cara McCosh, Senior Project Officer at Leeds Metropolitan, commented: Helping to organise this Christmas celebration for some of the most isolated members of the Burmantofts community is great fun. Our team of student and staff volunteers includes around twenty international students who will not be going home for Christmas, which is a great way for them to connect with the community that they have come to study in.
