A procedure was carried out where 38 mg of 1,4-dichlorobenzene was added to a conical vial with nitric acid and let stand for 15 minutes. Water was then added dropwise while stirring and the mixture was cooled in an ice bath. The product was filtered, washed, dried and a melting point was taken to identify the crystal product.
