Letter of Application in Radium isotopes as tracers for mixing processes at the oxygen minimum zone off Peru
28-03-2012 Dear Sirs/Madams, This letter is to express my interest in the PhD position in Geosciences advertised on the website earthworks-jobs.com. I hold a master of science in Exploration and Engineering Geosciences from the Lulea University of Technology in Sweden and a Bachelor of Science in Earth Sciences from the University of Buea in Cameroon. I did my final year masters thesis project for a gold mining company in Sweden, Lappland Goldminers AB. In this project I was able to undertake a comprehensive study of one of their gold mineralization, the Ersmarkberget Gold mineralization. In this work I focused on the petrology, structures controlling mineralization, alterations, mineralogy, setting of gold, ore genetic model and their metallurgical implications. After this successful project my interest to stay in research and academia increased. Also during my masters studies I received training in microscopy, SEM, EPMA, microthermometry using fluid inclusions to determine temperatures of crystallizations, Isotope Geochemistry (Radiometric and Stable) amongst others. Courses such as ore forming processes, mining geology, structural geology and economic geology went a long way to explain fluids-rock interactions in hydrothermal system. I therefore have a sound background on rock-fluid geochemistry. It has always been my ambition to become a research scientist. I believe that this PhD study will contribute enormously to my research-career plan. Besides, this project fits my background and education. I have a very strong interest in geochemistry and structural geology and I am confident that the diverse experiences and education I have would serve me well if I am assigned this position. I can be contacted using the information on my CV (attached), but the best way to contact me is by email ([email protected]). I am also available for an interview at any time of your convenience. Thank you for considering my application. Looking forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Obasi Martin.
