Allen Axson Montessori School Small Group Counseling Information


School counselors offer a variety of groups throughout the school year. A small group is a way for students to gain extra support, instruction and time with the counselor, and to learn with and from their peers. Groups are formed based on student needs. Counselors form groups after receiving requests/concerns about students from parents, teachers, and students themselves. Groups are often started approximately 3 to 4 times per year. Groups typically meet weekly for 4-6 sessions during the school day. Permission from the teacher and parents is arranged prior to participation. Based on school need, potential group offerings may include: Friendship/Social Skills Self-Esteem/Confidence Building Work Habits/Study Skills Changing Families Coping with Feelings/Anger Management Grief Support Transitions (to Middle school, to a new classroom, others) My Body (for girls and boys)

If you see a need for your child to participate in a group, please contact our school counselor, Mrs. Jenkins, at [email protected] or at (904) 992-3600 ext 110. Group availability is determined by the amount of need in the whole school population. If forming a group is not an option, the counselor can work with a student on an individual basis.
