2.10 Exercise

The document contains 6 multi-part physics problems involving work, energy, power, springs and batteries. The problems calculate things like the work done by a man pushing a box, the total work done by a sales assistant lifting boxes, the average power of a person moving a box, the kinetic and potential energy of a rolling iron ball at different points, the efficiency of a motor lifting people in a lift, and the minimum time needed to charge a battery used to power a lamp.

1. What is the work done by a man when he pushes a box with a force of 90 N through a distance of 10 m?

State the amount of energy transferred from the man to the force. 2. A sales assistant at a shop transfers 50 tins of milk powder from the floor to the top shelf. Each tin has a mass of 3.0 kg and the height of thee top shelf is 1.5 m. Calculate the total work done by the sales assistant. 3. A person exerts a horizontal force of 600 N on a box that also experiences a friction force of 200 N. If it take 4.0 s to move the box 3.0 m, what is the average useful power? 4. The figure below shows a iron ball that is rolled through PQRST. The rough surface of QR has frictional force of 4 N.

A motor with a power of 12500 W raises a lift. Calculate the efficiency of the motor if it carries 8 persons with weight of 560 N each to a height of 20 meter in 10 seconds. 6. The energy absorbed by a solar panel is used to charge a battery. During the day, the battery stores 1.6 J of energy each second. At night, the battery is used to light a 1.2 W lamp for 1800 s. what is the minimum time for which the battery must be charge within the day?

1. A spring extends by 3 cm when it is hung with a 10g weight. Find

the total extension in each of the spring systems shown in the diagram.

Diagram (a) shows a spring whose original length is 20 cm. When a weight of 20 g is placed atop the spring as in diagram (b), the spring is stretched by 2 cm. If a weight of x g is placed atop the same spring as in diagram (c), it is found that the spring is stretched by 8 cm. What is the value of x?
