You'll need a piece of thick paper or thin card. %ed or pink is the &est colour for this, &ut you could always use white and colour it in if you like.
...then use a cup or mug to draw a semi( circle in the top corner.
"he semicircle should just &e touching the top and left edges of the card.
)ow draw a line down from the semi( circle to the &ottom of the card, like this.
#ut out the shape and you should ha e two identical pieces of card.
!ut the two shapes on top of each other and use the scissors again to make a cut, a&out two thirds of the way up &oth of the shapes.
)e*t, use a sil er pen and write along the top of one of pieces +only you can mend+,
-long the top of the other piece, write +my &roken heart+.
!op &oth pieces into an en elope and send it off to your alentine, "hen, truly only they can mend your &roken heart. Don't gi e them any instructions, so then you'll know that if they take the time to figure it out, they must like you, "ry it yourself,
!encil sha ings can &e ery messy ( so how a&out a special pencil sharpening &in: which will collect and sharpen your pencil for you. You will need: -n empty pot #ard&oard - pencil sharpener !V- glue )ewspaper "issue or kitchen paper "ape !aint /lack pen
'irst, take an empty pot like this. Drinking chocolate pots are pretty good for this.
- little way up from the &ottom, use a sharp pencil to push a hole through the card&oard. 0f you can't do this yourself, ask an adult to do it for you.
Draw around the &ottom of the pot twice onto some card&oard &o* card and cut the two circles out.
Stick the two circles of card together with some glue, like this.
1hen the glue dries, take a pencil sharpener, place it just at the edge of the circles of card&oard &o* card, and draw around it.
"he idea now is to cut this shape out, &ut within the lines, so that you can then put the pencil sharpener &ack in and it will &e a tight fit. You could always put some glue on it to hold it in place.
"hen put some more glue on the underneath of the card circles.
"hen for a slightly tricky &it... you need to line the pencil sharpener up with the hole at the &ottom of the pot, and then push the card&oard circles all the way down it. You could use a ruler to do this.
Scrunch up some newspaper and pad out the lid a little, taping it firmly into place with a lot of tape.
-dd on a small twist of newspaper to make a handle, taping it down on either side.
'or some sticky(out eyes, roll up two &alls and tape them underneath the rim of the lid.
"o make e erything a &it neater, paste on a layer of tissue paper or kitchen roll with !V- glue mi*ed with a little water.
1hen you' e co ered the whole thing, and it's dry, you'll &e left with something that looks like this. You can e en add some handles to the side as well,
)ow all you need to do is paint. 2se metallic sil er paint for the &in, adding some grey lines for detail, and pick out some e*tra details with a &lack pen.

You know the way a frame goes all the way around a picture. 1ell ( here's one that doesn't ( a corner frame. "hey look great, and they're so easy to make. You will need: card&oard &o* card poster or acrylic paint
5ine your ruler up against the left hand edge, and mark the point 67cm up.
"ake the ruler away, and draw a line across from the top mark and a line up from the &ottom mark. $ake them a&out the same length, so that you end up with a sort of 5 shape.
)ow, take a &igger piece of card&oard &o* card, and draw around the 5 shape onto it in pencil, to create another 5 shape.
"he idea is to draw the front of your frame design using this 5 shape as a guide. Do not go &elow the &ottom line, or your picture frame won't stand up, /ut you can go o er the other lines in the picture. 8nce you' e drawn your picture, you'll ha e something that looks like this.
"urn your front design o er, and put your 5 shape into position on the &ack &y lining it up with the &ottom edge, and draw around it.
"o create a gap to slot your picture in, you need two long thinner strips of card&oard &o* card a&out 9cm wide that fit along this drawn 5 shape. 2se some strong glue and stick them down.
-dd strong glue along the small folding &it, and stick it to the 5 shape to form a stand.
-dd more glue on top of the card&oard strips you stuck on earlier, and stick the 5 shape on top of it, creating a nice slot down the middle.
1hen all the glue is dry, use poster or acrylic paint to make like this.
!aint the &ack too, and use the &ack piece of card&oard as a frame stand.
0nsert your picture into the frame to create a corner frame, "hink a&out other designs like an e*otic &each, or theme your frame to suit your picture. "ry it yourself,

Here's an original way of making a greetings card, tailor made for any occasion. You will need: !aper #ard Scissors :lue
Decide on an occasion, and choose the type of costume you'd wear for it. "his one's going to &e a posh &irthday card, 'or a posh jacket, take a piece of thin card that's a &it longer than -3 and the same colour you want the jacket to &e, and fold one edge roughly into the centre, and fold the other edge in to meet it, o erlapping a little.
'old down the corner of the flaps to create collars. "his will &e the &asic jacket shape.
"o make a shirt, cut a piece of thin card or paper that's the same si4e as the &ack of the card, and glue it into place inside the jacket.
)ow you can add on e*tra details. 0f you cut the edges off a paper doily, they make a great lacey frill for the front of the shirt,
-rrange them down the length of the shirt. -&out three o erlapping rows on either side looks good.
"o make a &ow tie, you'll need some paper that's roughly postcard si4e.
'old it lengthways &ack on itself repeatedly, so that you produce a concertina fan.
1rap a small strip of paper around the middle and tape it at the &ack, to hold it in place.
You can also add a s;uare of paper with one folded edge to the front of the jacket for a pocket.
'or a flower, scrunch up a strip of cr<pe paper like this, pinching the end and taping it together like this.
-nd there it is ( a fantastic costume card to send on a &irthday or any special occasion. 1rite a message on the inside of the jacket.

"hen write your message in the card. !ut +'rom $e+ and +"o You+ along the &ottom of the card, and in the middle, add a message, depending upon the purpose of the card.
)e*t, pop a hole where the hands are in the picture. "he &est way to do this is to place your card a&o e some sticky tack, then push a pencil through the card.
#ut out a heart from thin coloured card. -lternati ely, use white paper, and paint it red.
#ut a piece of string a &it longer than the width of your card.
"hread this string through the hole in the middle of your heart, then through the holes of card where the hands are, and tie a knot.

Ha e a go at making this cra4y assault course for mar&les, You will need: $ar&le Disposa&le cups Scissors #ard&oard tu&es Small card&oard &o*es !e&&les Sticky tape @gg &o* carton @mpty cartons and packages !aint
Start &y making some catchers and throwers, to catch the mar&le and then throw it &ack out, 'or the catcher part, cut a circle out of one of the paper cups. 0t needs to &e the same si4e as one of the tu&es.
'or the thrower &it, cut the tu&e in half lengthways and insert one end into the hole at a slight angle. !ut some tape underneath where the tu&e meets the cup.
"he small &o*es will form a &ase to stand it on. 1eigh the &o* down with a pe&&le or two and tape it closed. "hen tape your catcher and thrower to the &o*.
)ow test the catcher and thrower &y dropping a mar&le inside. 0t should fly out of the &ottom tu&e, 0f you make two the same ( and paint them in ja44y colours ( you ha e the &eginnings of a mar&le motorway,
"hen, place the catchers and throwers in your room at different le els. You could prop them up on &ooks on a ta&le, or put them on shel es around your room so the mar&le will tra el from one down into the other.
)ow you can make some &ridges, to let the mar&le tra el e en further, 2se more tu&es, cut in half lengthways and taped to &o*es at a slight angle. Here, )eil's propped up his &ridge with part of an egg &o*. "o get a smooth run, it's important the tu&es o erlap slightly so there are no &umps or gaps,
You can keep adjusting the motorway and adding more &its. 2se whate er empty cartons and packages you can find lying around the home ( and &e imaginati e,
You could make a helter skelter stunt from a card&oard tu&e and two empty cheese &o*es. #ut one hole in the middle of the cheese &o* the same si4e of your tu&e, then another at the side &ig enough for a mar&le to fall through.
Stand the tu&e up ( and make two le els. "he idea is to tilt the cheese &o*es at an angle so the mar&le will run through &oth the holes in turn. Stick the tu&e to another weighted &o* ( and paint it howe er you like,
'or a orte* stunt, use half a kitchen roll tu&e stuck into the side of another one at an angle like this.
#ut off the top &it of an empty plastic drinks &ottle. !lace it on top of the tu&e and upside down. -gain, stick the whole thing onto a weighted &o* and paint,
"he mar&le will whi44 around in the top for a while, then shoot out of the tu&e at the side,
1hen you' e made a few stunts, arrange them in &etween your catchers and throwers and &ridges...

"ake a long thin piece of card or paper and di ide it into three e;ual parts.
Draw a line on &oth edges a&out a ruler's width away from the sides.
$easure and di ide these thin edges into three e;ual sections hori4ontally. "ake time to do this precisely.
)ow, cut away the top and &ottom &its on one side, and the middle &its on the other side =the &its highlighted here> .
0n the middle section draw a picture that has a theme. "his will form a sort of frame for your suspended &it, so make sure you lea e a fairly &ig gap in the centre. "his one is a countryside scene.
#arefully cut out the middle section as neatly as you can, making sure you keep it safely to one side.
'old the rest of the card &ack together again. $ake a mark in the centre at the &ack where the two flaps meet. "his will help you to draw a continuous picture for the &ackground.
Sketch a &ackground scene =here you can see hills> on &oth sides using the marks as guides.
1hen the card is put together, the two sides will join up to make continuous rolling hills.
)ow draw a feature inside the middle &it you cut out earlier. "his will &e the part that ho ers.
"ape two &its of cotton thread to the &ack of your &utterfly so it can ho er.
)ow you're ready to attach the &its of cotton to the &ack of the card at the top. You'll need to turn the card round first so the front of the &utterfly is the same way round as the main picture. /ut the &ackground scene will still &e isi&le,
"ake your time to make sure the cotton is straight, and snip off any stray &its at the top.now )ow fold the flaps &ack...

Don't you just lo e ice cream. )ow you can use it as inspiration for making something that will hold all your pens and pencils. You will need: an empty washing up &ottle card&oard &o* card newspaper !V- glue tissue paper or kitchen roll poster or acrylic paint cereal &o* card scissors sticky tape
"ake the empty washing up &ottle and cut out the &ottom 3cm. "ape it to a piece of card&oard &o* card that's roughly A7cm &y A7cm.
%oll two dou&le sheets of newspaper lengthways, and wrap them neatly around the &ottom of the washing up li;uid &ottle.
"ape into place. 2se plenty of tape, otherwise you'll lose the shape,
"hen, for the flaky chocolate, take a&out eight strips of newspaper, roughly Bcm wide.
Scrunch the strips up on themsel es, so that you get a kind of &unched(up concertina shape.
"hen twist them a &it, and tape them around the middle just to keep them in shape.
"ape this to the side of the washing(up li;uid &ottle, using lots of tape.
"his is the messy &it, $i* some !V- glue in e;ual parts with water. "ake some tissue paper or kitchen roll, and dip it into the glue. $ould it o er the newspaper. %epeat this across the whole of the newspaper. You don't ha e to go inside the &ottle ( just around the edges. 0t doesn't matter a&out &eing neat here, as a splattered ice cream is messy,
Do the same for the flaky chocolate &it, &ut don't go o er the edge of the newspaper at the top of the part that's sticking out.
1hen you' e done the whole thing, lea e it to dry. 1hile it's drying, you can make the cone. "ake some thin card =cereal &o* card is perfect for this>, and starting with one corner, roll it into a long thin cone.
"ape the cone into position around the middle to stop it falling apart,
#ut your cone into a shape that will fit inside your ice(cream holder. "rim it &it &y &it so that you ha e something that looks like this.
1hen you' e got a cone shape that fits, you need to paste the outside with !Vglue and tissue paper or kitchen roll. #o er the whole of the outside in one layer of glue and tissue.
5ea e e erything to dry, then trim around the &ottom of your splat to remo e all the e*cess card&oard.
)ow it's ready to &e painted, 2se poster or acrylic paint, and choose a colour appropriate for a particular ice cream fla our. 'or the flaky chocolate, use a light &rown, and streak in &its of darker &rown. 'or the cone, paint it an orange(yellow wafer colour.
1hen it's dry, you can add on more details with a felt pen, like the criss(cross lines you can see on a cone.
)ow it's ready to hold your pens and pencils. 0t's just a case of s;uee4ing them all together, and popping the cone on the top to keep e erything inside. -nd when you need something, just take the cone off. "ry it yourself,

$ake a special frame for that special someone... You will need: !lastic &ag #ard&oard &o* card $odelling clay String !laster of paris $easuring jug Spoon
"hese moulded heart frames are great fun to make. Start &y taping a plastic &ag onto some card&oard &o* card, to make a work surface.
)e*t you need to roll some soft modelling clay into long, thick sausages.
"he idea is to lay out a heart shape on the plastic ( one &ig and one small.
'latten them a &it, and join together any joins so that there are no gaps at all in the modelling clay.
0f you want to, you can make little heart shapes and place them inside the mould too,
You can get plaster of paris from art shops, chemists and e en stationers. "he idea is to mi* two cups of powder with one cup of water, as this gi es the &est consistency.
1hen the mi*ture is nice and smooth, pour it into the mould. You'll need a steady hand for this,
$ake sure that the mi*ture seeps into all the nooks and crannies.
)e*t, take a small piece of string that has a knot tied at each end. 5ay the knotted ends of the string into the mi*ture so that you can hang the frame up when it has dried.
0f you' e got any plaster of paris left o er, don't pour it down the sink, !op it in a &ag, and put it in the &in.
1hen the frame is solid, carefully peel the modelling clay away...
...and lift the whole thing off the &ag to re eal the finished frame.
0f the edges are a &it rough, you can always smooth them down with an old kitchen scourer.
)ow you can paint the frame, and add a picture to the centre.

Here's a great Secret /o* for stashing your stuff. "o nosey snoopers, it looks empty, You will need: - washing powder ta&lets &o* $irror card !lastic packaging !aint :old pen Scissors %uler
'ind a &o* with a lid. - washing powder ta&let &o* like this one is perfect.
You need to cut a hole in the front of the &o*, so draw a guide line that's a couple of centimetres in from the edge. You could use a ruler to help you do this.
)ow you need to cut out that section. 1hene er you need to cut something out from the middle of your artwork, just make a hole &y pressing a sharp pencil through into some modelling clay.
"his way you can get your scissors in, and it makes cutting out much easier,
)e*t, you need to make the hole into a window. "o do this, you need some see(through plastic packaging.
0t's still an ordinary &o* at the moment, &ut here are the special steps that'll turn it into a Secret /o*, "he secret is a piece of mirror card...
"o get it to fit, you need to measure the front of the &o* to get the width of card...
"hen, place the mirror card in the &o*, with the &ottom edge at the &ack.
)ow lean it forward. 0f you put your things in behind the mirror card, you won't &e a&le to see it on the other side ( e en though it looks like it's empty through the window,
"o make it look e en more con incing, you need to decorate the inside of the &o*. %emo e the mirror card &efore you do this. Draw around the &ottom of the &o* onto some paper.
"o get the right si4e, cut it out slightly inside the line.
)ow design a pattern. - symmetrical or repetiti e pattern is &est, like stripes, as it will disguise the mirror &etter, - oid words or num&ers as they'll reflect &ackwards and spoil the secret.
Do e*actly the same for all the sides of the &o*, and you'll ha e something that looks like this,
1hen you put the mirror card &ack in, the illusion is complete,
'inally, decorate the outside of the &o* any way you like. "his one's going to &e a wooden &o*, so start with some light &rown...
...and when it's dry, add in some woodgrain with a darker shade of &rown.
'inally, add some hinges, and some detail with a gold pen.
1hen it's finished, you'll ha e something that looks like this, and e erything you put in it will seem to disappear, "ry it yourself,

You will need: -ir drying clay 8ld tray or plastic &ag taped onto some card&oard !lastic knife !aint&rush 1ater !aperclips !V- glue
"ake a &all of air drying clay and roll or press it out onto an old tray, or a piece of plastic &ag taped onto a piece of card&oard.
Don't press the clay too thinly ( a&out 9cm thick is perfect.
2se a plastic knife to cut out the shape of whate er keyring you want to make.
You can now cut out smaller details from the e*cess clay...
...and stick them on. Secure them in place &y &rushing on a little water.
- cocktail stick or sharp pencil is handy for drawing or scratching detail into the clay.
1hen you' e finished, take a paperclip and carefully push it into top of the soft clay, lea ing just the end sticking out. 5ea e the clay to dry o ernight. 0t'll go ery hard and then &e ready to paint.
-crylic paint is perfect for this. 2se a small &rush for adding in fine details...
1hen you' e finished painting, and the paint has dried, you'll ha e something that looks like this. "his one has had e*tra detail added using a permanent pen. 0t's also had a coat of !V- glue &rushed all o er which has dried shiny,
-dd a second paperclip to the one that sticks out of the clay, and then you can start using the keyring.
Here's a great way of designing your own graffiti tag... &ut don't write it on walls or desks, You will need: #oloured paper #halk pastels or crayons
#halk pastels like these are the &est for this -rt -ttack, &ut crayons work just as well.
8n a piece of coloured paper, write your name in &ig, chunky, angular letters. 0t's a good idea to tuck the letters &ehind each other.
"hen take some white chalk and add a little trick... just draw a small dot somewhere on each letter.
)e*t, colour each letter in using &right colours, but don't cover the dots,
1hen you' e coloured each letter, strengthen up all the &lack lines 0f you're using pastels, &e careful not to accidentaly smudge it,
)ow to really ja44 it up, just gently smudge the dots to make them look like highlights...
... and gently smudge the &lack lines too to gi e them a fu44y effect. "his makes it look like they' e &een sprayed on.
)e*t, gi e e erything a coloured outline, doing it twice in different colours. Ceep it straight and jagged with sharp edges.
'inally, just to finish it off with a hea y metal effect, draw some white shine lines going diagonally across the lettering. $ake sure all the lines are in the same direction. -nd to make it really stand out, put some starry twinkles on the corners. $ake sure you keep the twinkly &its nice and thin,
You can create different tags with different materials and shapes. "his one is more round and &lo&&y.
