A Nation Without Religion

Religion has been an integral part of human society since early human beings began worshipping gods from nature. Over time, different religions like Islam, Christianity, and others were introduced to the Philippines and now there are countless religions coexisting in the world. However, religions often spark conflicts as adherents of different faiths discriminate against and fight one another over misunderstandings. The recent conflict in Zamboanga between Muslims and Christians is an example of using religion as an excuse for violence, when the real reasons lie elsewhere. To build a more peaceful world, we must seek to understand other religions, accept differences, and recognize our shared humanity rather than focusing on perceived negatives.

A Nation without Religion Imagine a nation or perhaps the world without religion.

Will it really be the world that we have always dreamt of? Will the world be free of any divide; A world as near as heaven? Let us take a look at this world we are in now. Let us reflect on why this world full of chaos. Religion has been a way of life for human beings as far back to our beginnings. Early human beings worshiped Gods from nature. Here in the Philippines, we call him Bathala. Then the Malayans came to our great archipelago and brought Islam with them. Then five centuries ago, Magellan set foot to the Philippines and converted some into Christianity. Human beings are uniquely different from each other. We have our own styles and ways in dealing with different aspects of life, like religion. We have different beliefs, faith and culture that make us unique from each other. Each one of us deserves respect and acceptance to the differences that we have. In this world we live in today, there are countless Religions that we believe in. And as many spark into bitter conflicts that span for housands of years. Muslims and Christians often discriminates each other. They often impede into wars and misunderstanding. A recent conflict between Moro National Liberation Front has overwhelmed the city of Zamboanga in the southern Philippines. A newspaper article reads, Christians vs. Muslims in Zamboanga. Why do we always take religion as an excuse for these unnecessary wars, when the real reason isnt? Three weeks prior, Nur Misuari (MNLF Leader) declared independence and wanted freedom from the Philippines. The Muslims wanted to regain their land from the non-believers, the Christians. They took up arms, well some of them, because most of the MNLF were deceived to fight; thats another story. Why do we have that tendency to seek the dark side of other religions? Is it because of insecurity? Why cant we seek the bright side of others religion? We could do these by having a healthy relationship with people from other religions, by not only understanding them but accepting them, and by discovering the true humanity among us. You see if people do analyze the situation that we have right now. Then we would realize that we are all equal. We all pray to one God. And in our Almightys own point of view; we, His Almighty creations, are equal. And the God that we are all praying for wants us to be united with one another. That is why we need to learn to accept each others differences and live our life without seeing our negative side. We cant imagine our world, our country without religion. It can never be deemed possible. Religion somewhat drives us. Religion gives us meaning. That is true to all beliefs, to all religions. Reflect. Who are you? Live your religion. Understand yours, and that also of others.
