3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION: HUMAN BEINGS: Serious risk of tissue corrosion after contact with skin or eyes. Contact rapidly causes itching and stinging pain. Serious risk of permanent damage to sight.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES: EYE CONTAMINATION: Without delay, rinse affected eye(s) with water for at least 15 minutes. Do not attempt to remove contact lenses, at least for first two minutes of rinsing, which should continue up to and during transport to hospital. Seek urgent medical attention. Rinse affected area with plenty of water. Remove and wash contaminated clothing. Seek urgent medical attention. Remove to fresh air and rest. If breathing distress persists, seek medical attention. Rinse mouth immediately with water. Give water to drink if subject is conscious. Do not encourage vomiting, but if it happens or appears imminent, keep affected person lying on side with head low to avoid inhalation of stomach contents. Seek urgent medical attention.

This document should accompany transportation to clinic/hospital and be at hand if a doctor is being contacted.

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES: EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: The product is compatible with all commonly used extinguishing media.

SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES:

Remove the product if possible; otherwise, keep it cooled with water.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES: Limit leakage into sewers or local environment by damming, or by taking liquid up with adsorbent, non-combustible material (e.g. dry earth or sand). Rinse copiously with water. Dispose of spillage residues according to local procedures, e.g. delivery to a designated station for disposal of chemical waste. See also sections 8 and 13.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE: HANDLING: To be handled with caution. Must not be used in fully closed systems: these must first be provided with pressure-release valves or similar safety device. Avoid accidental or deliberate mixing of the product with alkaline substances or those containing chlorine. To be stored at cool temperature in closed, original container and kept separate from foodstuffs, medicinal products, animal feeds, and suchlike. Also keep product well away from alkaline products or those containing chlorine, to avoid risk of mixing unless the reactivity of the product (see section 10) otherwise have been taken into account. Possibility to control leaks e.g. by use of sumps or retaining dams should be in place.

Specific monitoring procedures are not needed when used as intended. Use suitable protective gloves of plastic or rubber e.g. Nitrile or Neoprene (Class 2, breakthrough time over 30 minutes; EN 374). Also wear splash-proof goggles or full-face shield (EN 166) and an acid-proof apron (EN 463; type 6). Apply moisturising cream/lotion regularly to prevent skin drying out. There must be access to eye-irrigation facilities and a plentiful source of water.

10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY: The product is not itself flammable, but it will sustain fire. It reacts violently with organic compounds and with alkaline-reacting substances. Risk of excessive pressure developing. Contact with chlorine-containing compounds generates toxic gases.

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION: EYE CONTAMINATION: SKIN CONTAMINATION: INHALATION: INGESTION: Causes tissue corrosion. Risk of serious risk of damage to cornea and loss of sight. Causes tissue corrosion. Splashes have immediate blanching effect on skin (white blotches that disappear spontaneously after some time). Inhalation of aerosols can irritate and corrode respiratory tract lining. Risk of lung damage at high doses. Corrosive; causes vomiting and distress.
