BSECE 5 ANALYSIS
In this experiment the students are tasked to set up a peer-to-peer wired Ethernet connection between two PC units. Next is to set up peer-to-peer wired Ethernet using a network switch. Part 1 of the experiment requires the students to make a local area network using the communication devices of the students which in this case are the laptops. A local area network (LAN) is a computer network that interconnects computers in a limited area such as a home, school, computer laboratory, or office building using network media.[1] The defining characteristics of LANs, in contrast to wide area networks (WANs), include their smaller geographic area, and non-inclusion of leased telecommunication lines. Using crossover cable which the students built last experiment, which will also serve as the communication link between the devices, they will able to create a LAN. In this case, the students use two laptops. The instructions to connect the devices are already given and they just have to follow it. In setting up a connection, the windows firewall should be turned off to be able to monitor the connection using CMD. After setting up the connection, the students are able to check the connection by doing a PING on the IP destination. Also the students had proven that the connection was successful by playing Counter Strike in multiplayer mode which makes use of the LAN connection. The next part of the experiment is to set up a connection using a switch. A network switch (sometimes known as a switching hub) is a computer networking device that is used to connect many devices together on a computer network. A switch is considered more advanced than a hub because a switch will only send a message to the device that needs or requests it, rather than broadcasting the same message out of each of its ports. In this part, the students used a straight through cable between each device. Unlike setting up a LAN, the switch is able to assign an IP address to the connected devices. After setting up a connection, youre now able to connect to the internet via the switch. The testing of connection are the same as that of part 1.
CONCLUSION The students are able to accomplish the required objectives in the experiment. Not only that, they are also able to gain knowledge on how to connect different communication devices from the procedures that this experiment had provided. Now the students are able to set up connections of their respective devices to other communication devices.
