Leccin tres



To work on any lesson, you need to have a plan on how to go about it. Any system is better than
no system! Having the same or a similar plan for all the lessons will minimize confusion and
maximize your productivity in the long run. As you study this chapter, you should pay close
attention to the icons and the instructions given to you by the authors of Hola, amigos! Some
students may find more profitable doing the workbook and laboratory activities in small
segments throughout the chapter, rather than waiting to do all of them together at the end. If that
is true in your case, you should, by all means, study the material in the order that you think is
most advantageous for you. Here is a typical sequence you might want to follow to study this
chapter:

1. In your textbook, go to Scope and sequence (pages v-xii) and look for Leccin 3. You will
find the following main sections under Leccin 3:
Para hablar del tema lists most of the vocabulary and expressions used in the chapter
Para practicar el vocabulario encourages you to use the new vocabulary and
expressions
Puntos para recordar introduces and explains new grammar points in the chapter
Entre nosotros provides activities for students to use the new material creatively

You will also find three smaller sections:
Lectura provides reading selections for additional reading practice
El mundo hispnico gives cultural information about the countries in this chapter
Tome este examen contains a self-test to help you measure your overall mastery of the
vocabulary, grammatical structures, and cultural information covered in this chapter. The
correct answers are in the back of the book in Appendix D.

2. In your textbook, on pages 52-53 read the Objetivos for Leccin 3. Study the picture(s) and
begin anticipating the content of this chapter. Guess at the overall meanings of the captions
under each picture. You will recognize many Spanish words that look similar to English
ones. These are called cognates and most often they mean the same thing in both
languages.

3. In your textbook, go to pages 54-55, study the vocabulary and any drawings that may help
you remember the meanings of some of the nouns presented.

click the Site Map link, then Leccin 3, then Improve Your Grade, and finally Audio
Flashcards. Practice all the activities you find in this section. This will help you get started
on learning the vocabulary and expressions practiced in this chapter.

6. In your textbook, pages 58-59, work out all the vocabulary practice activities.

audio file and listen closely to the pronunciation of each item. Repeat each utterance after the
speaker on the recording. You may have your book closed or open, but you should repeat this
activity twice or more as needed.

8. In your textbook, pages 60-71, you will find six Puntos para recordar. You should read
each of them carefully and work out all the practice exercises. Studying the grammar points
presented in the chapter all at once will be more than a learner can digest in one sitting. It is
recommended that you study these grammar points one or two at-a-time and work out the
activities.

9. Each time you finish studying a couple of grammar point sections and work out the
corresponding exercises, go to

Seccin 02: Puntos para recordar, view the grammar videos and do all the brief
exercises. The grammar videos explain the grammar points at hand. These videos are the
equivalent of your classroom teacher!!!

10. Repeat steps 9 & 10 (above) until you complete sequentially ALL the grammar points, view
the grammar videos and work out all the answers online and in your textbook. Study this
material and do the activities as many times as it takes you to understand the material. Do
NOT advance to the next chapter if you dont fully understand the material in this one.
11. In your textbook, on pages 54-55 is where vocabulary and grammar come together. This
icon tells you it is time to listen to the dialogue. You can listen to the first half, do
some of the SAM activities and come back to finish working with the rest of the dialogue.
On blackboard you will find in this study guide the translations of all the lesson dialogues.
Look for Lesson-3. Read it once or twice to get an idea of what it is about. Then, go back to

and listen to the dialogue file while at the same time you keep your eyes on the printed
dialogue in your textbook. You must do this as an interactive listener: be alert, listen closely,
pay attention to the script, try to constantly guess at the meaning(s) of what is being said. By
now, you should be able to understand a great deal of the vocabulary, the grammar, and small
bits of cultural information presented in this chapter. You should also be getting used to the
pronounciation of the Spanish speakers in the recordings and videos.
12. In your SAM, work out sequentially the activities in Leccion-3, pages 23-30. You will NOT
need any audio or video files for these activities. The answers to most workbook activities
are provided at the end of the book (after page 220). Please notice that the Answer Keys for
the Workbook and Laboratory Manual activities are paginated differently from the first 220
pages.

13. In your SAM, work out the laboratory activities in Leccin-3, pages 163-167. For this
section you will need to listen to audio files listed on the Online Teaching Center. Go to

14. In your textbook, study Entre nosotros, pages 72-73.

16. In your textbook, take the self-test on pages 94-95. Then check your answers in Appendix D
starting on page 266.

necessary for you to understand the material. You can check your answers one-at-a-time as

18. At this point you have covered all the material in Leccin-3 except for the cultural readings
and videos. These are done at the end of each Unit; that is, after chapters 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12,
and 14. Please, feel free to redo the entire chapter or any part of it you deem necessary to
meet your needs. Also, remember that the above sequence of steps is just a recommendation;
you should feel free to study each chapter anyway you feel would give you the best results!











Recorded assignment:

When you finish studying Leccin 3 and feel that you have understood the material, make your
recording. At the beginning of the recording, state your name and the course and then follow the
procedure outlined in the section Assignments and Grading. The textbook activities to be
