Modified SF HP Air Burst: ABR 6009 Vol 2 Chap 4 Original, June 2010

The document provides procedures for modifying the external breathing rail (EBR) air supply in the event of a high pressure (HP) air burst or loss of the forward low pressure (LP) air system during external respiratory and escape (ER&E) operations. It details reconfiguring the divers' air breathing system (DABS) to allow continued air supply to the EBR from redundant air cylinders. It also provides the procedure for reverting the EBR supply back to normal once the HP air system is resupplied.

CHAPTER 4

MODIFIED SF HP AIR BURST

GENERAL 4-1. During ER&E operations the normal air supply to a diver when breathing on the External Breathing Rail (EBR) is supplied from the submarines Fwd LP Air System. 4-2. In the event of either a HP/LP air burst or complete loss of either system the Divers Air Breathing System (DABS) must be re-configured to allow continued supply of air to the EBR using Redundant Air Cylinders of the DABS. Table 41 details this procedure. 4-3. Noting that the redundant EBR air supply is limited, once an alternative bottle group has been placed onto the ringmain, or a discrete isolation has been made allowing the HP air system to be supplied from BG3 the EBR supply should reconfigured to normal sea line up. Table 42 details this procedure. Table 41
No 1 ORDER BY ACTION BY Scene Isolate HP air burst locally if possible. (If the burst is successfully isolated, do not continue to step 2, report the isolation/state of the system to CR/HQ1.) NOTE IF the HP Air Burst is located Aft, do not shut down HP Air Bottle Group 3 until ordered by CR. 2 Scene Pipe on Main BC "HP AIR BURST, HP AIR BURST, HP AIR BURST IN <COMPARTMENT>."
