Variety Show
Parents, We met today to get the variety show organized and it is going to be another great year! We are super excited to see all of the interest in the variety show. We have 46 acts signed up. Because of the high number of acts this year, we are going to have a run through of acts on February 13. Please send any needed items with your child on this day. We understand if it is still needs refining but this will give us an idea of time. We will be looking at the overall content and timing of the acts. Each act will be given the amount of time we feel is best for the act and the show overall. Each act time will vary based on the content. This will be shared with your child at the time of the rehearsal so they can practice accordingly. Please understand that it is very likely that your child will not perform their chosen song in its entirety. We have the very difficult task of highlighting each act while at the same time keeping the show reasonable in length. We want everyone to see our kids as the stars they are! Thank you for supporting this fun event! - LT Variety Show Committee
Safe Schools
As a school administrator, it seems that everything I read regarding student discipline is related to bullying and/or harassment. This is by no means a new problem. Schools all over the country have researched best practices and wrote new policies in an effort to stop these serious behaviors. What I believe and have learned from talking with school counselors and mental health professionals, that in order for us to truly stop bullying, we must reach the students who witness it. Ben Franklin once famously said, Justice will not be observed until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are. We have to create a reporting system that students feel comfortable using. For us in North Spencer, that system is SafeSchools. This anonymous reporting system has been modeled in our classrooms. Posters with details regarding how to file a report are on display throughout our building. We must remind students of this system often, and explain that we do have an expectation of our students that they tell someone when they witness someone being bullied, intimidated, or harassed. We can work together to make our buildings even safer.
