Description : The property comprises a site of about 2.17 acres (0.88 hectares), on which various buildings are constructed. There is a brick and stone fronted former fire station and upper parts adjoining Southwark Bridge Road, together with extensive ancillary buildings and yard areas to the rear, which are currently used as a training centre for the London Fire Brigade. It includes four drill towers and a purpose built 'fire house'. Immediately to the north of the former fire station is Winchester House, parts of which are currently used to house the London Fire Brigade Museum. It is fronted by a large forecourt, which is used as a car park and an open site extending along the northern boundary of the property. The oldest buildings on the site are the North and West blocks at the rear of Winchester House, which date from the 1770's. Winchester House was built around 1820 and the original fire station adjoining, having three appliance bays, dates from 1878. The newer adjacent former fire station to the south has four appliance bays and was constructed in 1911. The Main Block to the west of the former fire station, extends along Sawyer Street and is of more modern construction, on three levels.
