APPLICATIONS PROPERTIES
Heat gradually to 875C. Hold at 875C then cool slowly in the
furnace. Take usual precautions to avoid decarburization.
Shear blades. Parts exposed to abrasion. Dies of simple form. For cold work, toughness can be increased,
depending on the application, by lowering the hardening temperature and by adjusting the tempering temperature to achieve 60 HRC.
Softened condition, Brinell hardness approximately 240.
QUALITIES
Very good cutting properties. Very good abrasion resistance.

HEAT TREATMENT
Hardening:
- 1st preheat to 550C. - 2nd preheat to 850C. - Heat to 1150/1200C. - Air cool or gas pressure quench. For large parts, air cooling may be replaced by hardening in a salt bath at 550C, followed by cooling in air to room temperature. It is recommended that heating should take place in a neutral atmosphere.
HARDNESS VS TEMPERING
TEMPERATURE
HRC 70 65 60 55 50 45 40 35 30
Tempering:
- Between 550 and 600C, depending on hardening temperature and hardness required. Double or triple temper required. - After hardening at 1180C and double temper at 550C: hardeness approximately 62 HRC.
