Origin of Global Warming
The earth is believed to have had cycles of heating and cooling that used to
happen naturally. This explains the reason hy the earth has had ice ages and cases of
arming up over time. !lobal arming is the increase of the earth"s atmosphere
temperature. The beginning of global arming is associated ith the industrial
revolution hereby human beings began emitting excessive greenhouse gases# hich
built up in the atmosphere as time ent by. The greenhouse gases trap heat in the
atmosphere causing changes to the earth"s climate. Industrial revolution as on the
increase in the1$th century and early %&
th
century. This as beteen 1'$& and 1$1&
here human beings influenced global arming a great deal. (rom the beginning of
industrial revolution# human emission of greenhouse gases has increased because of
increased human activities. This occurred as a result of human beings began using
machines that are poer driven. The poer of driving these machines as produced by
burning coal and ood. )mong others gases# carbon dioxide as produced through the
burning of charcoal and ood and as built up in the atmosphere. It is also during the
industrial revolution period that cases of deforestation ere on the rise# as ell as
increased pollution caused by immense human activities. The increased gases release

+ouncil ,par. -. note that such cases of built up gases in the environment are the
contributing factor to rapid global arming# hich is increasing even more today.
Causes of Global Warming
There are several causes of global arming. The causes are either manmade or
natural causes.
Manmade causes
These are the most pronounced causes of global arming. The prime artificial
cause to global arming is pollution. /ne of the main causes of global arming that
results from pollution is carbon dioxide. The gas is added into the atmosphere by a
number of activities# such as deforestation0 it is also produced by ood decay# fossil
fuels# cement ma1ing# and burning ood. These are all industrial revolution activities.
The current research from scientists indicate the carbon dioxide present in the
atmosphere is 12. 3oever# scientists predict a higher percentage ith time because
of increased human activities. The level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere today is
4&2 higher that it as in 1'5&. The Intergovernmental 6anel on +limate +hange
,I6++. assert that the levels of carbon dioxide may reach 5&& parts per million by the
year of %&7&# ith the earth"s temperature rising from to to six (ahrenheit by %1&&.
This depicts ho rapid universal arming is happening on the planet ,8arl 79..
:nder pollution# mining also comes in as a cause of global arming. During the
process of mining oil and coal# methane gas is emitted. This gas is naturally found in the
ground0 a little digging allos it to escape. 6opulation increase is another artificial cause
of global arming. ;hen people are many# more food is needed as ell as more means

of transport. This causes production of more methane in the process of more agriculture
and more burning of fossils. This causes a contradiction because it is believed that
global arming destroys agriculture and yet more agriculture contributes to global
arming. <anure is also a pollute that contributes to increased global arming. The
aful smell felt in domestic animals barn is methane. Increased population means
rearing more animals to produce food0 this means more manure therefore increased
methane. <ore means of transport folloing increased population comes ith more
pollution by use of more cars. =nlarged population leads to increased production of
carbon monoxide and increased cutting of trees needed for fuel. Trees are also cut to
create a ay for cultivation land# as ell as to provide building space ,:S National

)ccording to :S National *esearch +ouncil ,1-.# activities such as driving cars#
use of oil and natural gases in homes# and use of electricity produced by the coal>fired
poer plants among other activities release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. /ther
gases that trap heat are also released into the atmosphere. !reenhouse gases are also
produced by deforestation because ith less trees less carbon dioxide is converted to
oxygen. The upsurge of greenhouse gases concentration into atmosphere causes it to
trap more heat ith less of it escaping to the space. The trapped heat causes climate
changes as ell as altering eather patterns. This results to species extinctions and the
length of seasons is influenced. (looding at the coastal regions is also increased and
more severe and fre?uent storms results ,:S National *esearch +ouncil 1-..

Natural Causes
These are causes that occur naturally. Solar radiation is one of the natural
causes of global arming. These are light aves that pass through the atmosphere and
in the process# they arm the earth. Some of the solar energy is emitted out of the earth
into the space here it turns to infrared aves0 a number of them are then tapped by
the atmosphere of the earth arming it repeatedly. )s a result# the atmosphere is
thic1ened by all pollution coming from earth caused by the hole orld. *elease of
methane gas from etlands and the arctic tundra is another natural cause to global
arming. This is a greenhouse gas hose effect is trapping heat into the atmosphere.
)nother cause is the climate change cycle that the earth goes through. The change
ends after around 9&#&&& years# and many gases are emitted to the atmosphere during
the process. (inally# natural greenhouse gases also cause global arming0 many of
these gases occur naturally and are needed for earth arming ,I6++ )*9 ;!% 51..
Ways to Stop Global Warming
There are several things that can be done to reduce global arming as
discussed in this section.
Planting Trees
+arbon dioxide is an exceptionally noteorthy greenhouse gas in the
environment. Tree planting can therefore be of immense importance because it can
slo or even stop global arming. 6lants use carbon for their groth and they in turn
release oxygen. Deforestation is a great contributor to global arming through
excessive carbon dioxide that built up into the atmosphere. Tree planting is therefore a
healthy habit even in one"s bac1yard.

Reducing Fossil Fuel se
(ossil fuels consumption increases the discharge of greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere. To reduce fossil fuel consumption# alternative non>polluting energy
sources can be used. These are energy sources# such as ind or solar poer. This
leads to use of less energy as electricity is saved hen energy>saving appliances are
used. In addition# gasoline use can be reduced and people opt to buying green poer if
available at electricity providers" premises.
Water Conser!ation
) lot of energy is consumed# especially in the cities in the process of ater
purification. This process causes the emission of conservatory gases. =nsuring that
ater is safe from contamination reduces energy use into a great deal. 3uman beings
should therefore ta1e the responsibility of conserving ater. 6ermeable toilets and
faucets should be repaired immediately# and ater should alays be turned off hen
not in use. 6lants and grasses that re?uire irrigation should be atered ith rainater
captured in barrels.
Waste Reduction
The production of aste can in one ay add to global arming. ;aste
decomposed in landfills produces greenhouse gases such as methane. Therefore# the
patterns of consumption should be reduced# as ell as reusing items hen possible0 the
carbon footprint can be reduced through this because less energy is re?uired for
production. *ecycling materials such as# plastic# paper# metal and grass loers the rate
of emitting greenhouse gases because recycling ta1es less energy than the initial
production ,I6++ )*9 ;!% 5..

Conclusion
The rate of global arming in the orld is not beyond repair but still something
can be done. (rom the above# it is evident that human activities are the leading causes
of global arming. Therefore# it should be the responsibility of human beings to put all
possible efforts to reduce global arming. (irst# human beings should embrace
reducing# reusing# and recycling. @ess is consumed# and reusable items are not
discarded and recycling should be done to ensure that less energy is used. Second#
less heat should be used# and air conditioning embraced. This can be achieved through
insulating alls as ell as installing eather caul1ing around indos and doors. Third#
energy saving bulbs should be preferred as ell as buying products that are energy
efficient. (ourth# driving should also be reduced to ensure feer gas emissions and all
people should encourage each other to conserve energy. Through these ays# global
arming can be sloed don or even stopped.
