AVEVA PDMS Foundations
AVEVA PDMS is a complex program with different applications that enables discipline designers to
create a 3D model of a plant. These applications use common features within the Design module
that designers need to be familiar with before embarking on discipline specific application training.

Aim
The aim of this training module is to provide the basic knowledge of the common features that
provide the foundations for PDMS Design.

Objectives
Explain how PDMS can assist in Plant design.
Familiarise trainees with the basics of the User Interface.
Explain how to manipulate the 3D model.
Explain Element Attributes, Positioning and Orientation of Elements.
Introduce the Model Editor for graphical model manipulation.

Prerequisites
Keyboard Skills
Familiarisation with Microsoft Windows
Knowledge of Plant Design

Course Structure
Training will consist of oral and visual presentations, demonstrations and set exercises. Each
workstation will have a training project, populated with model objects. This will be used by the
trainees to practice their methods, and complete the set exercises.

Electrical & Instrumentation Equipment Modelling
This course has been designed for users who need to model complex equipment items, for electrical
and instrumentation systems, and any associated supports. It will provide the necessary skills for
users to create advanced equipment items including templates.

Aim
Participants will learn to use AVEVA PDMS to model complex items of equipment for Electrical and
Instrumentation purposes. It will focus on advanced modelling techniques, using Representation
Levels and Obstruction Levels to enhance the design.

Objectives
At the end of this course the trainee will be able to:
Create complex equipment items.
Understand the role and use of
representation and obstruction levels.
Create templates for equipment
items.
Create and use Linked Documents.

Prerequisites
It is expected that trainees will have completed the TM-1001 AVEVA Plant (12.1) PDMS Foundations
training course. Trainees who can demonstrate a suitable understanding of other PDMS applications
and techniques may also be permitted to undertake the training.

Course Structure
Training will consist of oral and visual presentations, demonstrations and set exercises. Each
workstation will have a training project, populated with model objects. This will be used by the
trainees to practice their methods, and complete the set exercises.

Cable Tray Modelling
Cable tray routing is an important activity on any large project. It uses the same principles and
concepts as pipe routing.

Aim
The aim of the course is to provide the skills required to use the Cable Tray Design application in the
most productive way.

Objectives
At the end of this session, the user will be able to:
Understand the basic concepts of cable trays and branches.
Understand the use of cable tray specifications.
Understand the concept of branch heads and tails and the importance of component list
order and flow direction within a branch.
Create, position, and orientate cable tray components.
Apply an obstruction level to the cable tray.
Use the various positioning options to place cable trays.
Run data consistency checks.
Produce as simple isometric from standard option files.
Generate reports.

Prerequisites
It is expected that trainees will have completed the TM-1001 AVEVA Plant (12.1) PDMS Foundations
training course. Trainees who can demonstrate a suitable understanding of other PDMS applications
and techniques may also be permitted to undertake the training.

Cableway & Cable Modelling
The AVEVA Plant Cabling System application supports the creation of Cableway, cables, and
Cableway material. This course has been designed for people who are involved in the detail design
layout of electrical systems. It will provide the necessary skills for the user to be able to create
Cableways, cable, and cable tray penetrations.
Aim
Over the duration of the course the participants will learn to use the AVEVA Plant Cabling System
application, and become familiar with Cableway creation, cable creation and Cableway material
creation.
Objectives
To have a clear understanding of the AVEVA Plant Cabling System application.
To be able to create Cableways and Cableway branches.
To be able to modify the Cableway route using route points and the model editor.
To be able to create electrical connections for equipment items.
To be able to create and route a cable using various methods of routing.
To be able to use the Cableway data checker utility.
To be able to apply Cableway material to the Cableway branch.
To be able to create and manage cable tray penetrations.
Prerequisites
As it is necessary to have a good understanding of the rules and conventions in the AVEVA Plant
systems, participants should have already completed the AVEVA Plant Foundations course.
Course Structure
Training will consist of oral and visual presentations, demonstrations and set exercises. Each
workstation will have a training project, populated with model objects. This will be used by the
trainees to practice their methods, and complete the set exercises.

Design Utilities
The AVEVA PDMS Foundations training module introduced Designers to the basic concepts of PDMS.
This training module introduces further Design Utilities that assist productivity and produce data
from the model to show the power of data centric design.

Aim
The aim of this training module is to introduce Design Utilities that complement and build open
those covered in the AVEVA PDMS Foundations training module.

Objectives
To introduce the concept of clash detection and how it may be used interactively by
Designers.
To enable a user to create quick reports and produce report templates.
To explain the basic principles of surface treatment and its application to Design elements.

Prerequisites
It is expected that trainees will have completed the TM-1001 AVEVA Plant (12.1) PDMS Foundations
training course. Trainees who can demonstrate a suitable understanding of other PDMS applications
and techniques may also be permitted to undertake the training.
