Welcome back to the start of the 2014 to 2015 school year. We would particularly like to welcome our new
children and families; Poppy, Naomi, Ruby, Oliver, Amelie, Alice, Emelia, Isabelle, Ellie, Maisie, Andrew, Jennifer,
Flora, Thomas, Kyffin, Luke, Sophie, Hugo, Faye, Noah, Finley, Oliver, Imogen, Amelia, Alice, Ruby, Adam, Samuel,
Poppy and Chloe who have all joined our Reception class. We would also like to welcome Mrs Wynne (Year 1
student classteacher) and Mr Coleclough (Year 6 student classteacher).

Summer Improvements
I would like to thank Mr Jones (Site Maintenance Officer), Mr Rushan (Caretaker) and Mrs Hall (Cleaner) who have
worked so hard during the holidays to ensure the children came back to a clean, safe and tidy building. The
refurbishment programme during the holiday included
redecoration of the Key Stage 2 classrooms; Rainbow Room; Clover & Bluebell Rooms
new carpets laid in Key Stage 2 classrooms
new tables and chairs in Key Stage 2 classrooms
installation of new interactive whiteboards in all the classrooms
new school telephone system installed
You may have seen the photographs of the refurbishment work if you follow us on twitter. Also I would like to thank
the teaching and support staff who have been into school throughout the holiday preparing classrooms and planning
lessons for the children. The childrens learning environments looked fantastic.

Unfortunately CWaC were delayed in starting the rebuilding of the external walls and this work has only just started.
It is likely to take at least 4 weeks to complete the building work of 3 external walls. This delayed the installation of
the sports area by Sport England which is now due to start week commencing 22 September.

Leave of Absence Request In line with our school policy all pupil absence, other than illness and medical,
requires a leave of absence form to be completed by parents. This includes musical examinations, religious events,
sporting activities, dance examinations and visits to other schools as part of transition. This is a formal process and
record to enable your childs absence to be recorded as a specific code on the statutory register. If we do not
receive the leave of absence request form your childs absence will be recorded as unauthorised.
Illness
If your child is absent through ill health please telephone the school office between 8.30am and 9am. Thank you.

Use of Social Media
The use of social media has soared in popularity in the last few years and as a school we have created a Twitter
account as a communication/marketing tool with the community. There are clear guidelines established for the safe
use of our Twitter account by staff and it is monitored closely by Senior Leaders. We would encourage our parents
following Mill View to ensure their personal account has the appropriate security settings. We do not propose to use
our account to check or monitor families use of Twitter; however, if an issue is brought to our attention via Twitter
it will be dealt with through our usual safeguarding procedures.

Mill View Primary School does not have a Facebook account, however, if an issue is brought to our attention
regarding comments made about individual staff or the school on social media sites which may be regarded as libel
or defamation it will be dealt with through our usual safeguarding procedures. Mill View Primary School has a strong
commitment towards working in positive partnership with the whole school community and when there are
particular concerns we would encourage the complainants to refer to the Complaints Procedure Statement which
can be found in the information section on the school website www.millviewschool.co.uk so that the matter can be
dealt with. We would encourage parents to discuss any concerns with the classteacher or myself first.

Summer Reading Passport
Thank you to those children who have returned their Summer homework Reading
Passport; these are being used in the childrens reading areas in the classrooms. If you
havent returned your homework yet please do so as soon as possible.

During the INSET day on Monday 01 September Mrs Gibbons and Miss Hetherington (English Leaders) shared with
the teachers and teaching assistants our new approach to teaching reading. Every class in Years 1 to 6 will establish
a daily Reading Roundabout consisting of reading activities (SPAG spelling, punctuation and grammar) and all the
children will complete the five activities during the week.

We have also introduced new reading diaries throughout the school and would welcome a parental comment at
least once a week in your childs dairy. Thank you.
