Journal Week 7

The document summarizes a teacher's journal from week 6 of teaching. It notes that the school lacks technology equipment like computers and projectors in classrooms. To address this, the teacher brought students to the computer lab but found the seating arrangement distracted students from the lesson. The teacher set rules for students but their excitement from videos and a singing competition increased misbehavior. As a solution, the teacher responded firmly through tone of voice and facial expressions while repeatedly reminding students of the rules, in order to promote a good learning environment.

JOURNAL WEEK 6

The school itself is lack of equipment in terms of ICT technology and

devices. All the classes are not attached with the Internet, computers and LCD
projector. Therefore, I tried to change the learning environment by bringing the
pupils to the computer lab.
Classroom arrangement is always very important before classroom
management. One weakness to carry out the teaching and learning process in
the computer lab is the seating arrangement. Most pupils are seated in groups
with computers facing in front of them. This would be very distracting pupils
attention as they would play with the computers during the teaching and learning.
Hence, before I began with my lesson, I actually set some rules to the pupils.
This decreases the pupils behaviour, but only to the certain time.
When I was conducting the lesson by playing some videos during set
induction, I realized the pupils were really excited. But their excitement actually
increases their misbehaviour. Having singing competition in the classroom is also
a disadvantage, because when there is a competition, there is always a noise.
Pupils were excited during the competition and some of them even lost control
and shouted at their friends.
As a solution to this, I did not only set rules, but also responding to the
pupils with firm tone and facial expression. This is very important because pupils
would read and understand the body language more instead of verbal language
sometimes. During the lesson, I kept on repeating the rules even though it was
tiring. This is because a good classroom control promotes a good learning
environment in a non-threatening atmosphere.
