The Welsh Football Leagues failure to provide

a promotion candidate means that once more
only one club is relegated from the Welsh
Premier League.
The southern feeder leagues only FAW
Domestic Licence holder, Haverfordwest
County, failed for the third consecutive season
to gain the magical top two slot that would have
guaranteed promotion.
The last southern club to be promoted, Afan
Lido FC, are now relegated and replaced by
north-east Wales club Cefn Druids, themselves
former WPL members.
Meanwhile, the postponed Carmarthen Town v
The New Saints match will now be played
tomorrow, Tuesday the 29th of April and will
decide third place in the Championship
Conference.
The hosts need to win to overtake Bangor City
and also claim home advantage throughout the
UEFA Europa League Play-offs.

Statement by the WPL

regarding flares
Unfortunately, at two live televised matches
this month in WPL grounds, there have been
incidents of flares.
These are not only illegal and against all
stadium Ground Regulations, but most
significantly of all, can seriously injure or
even kill spectators or players.
As a League and as clubs, we are all trying
very hard to market ourselves as a family
friendly, safe environment, but these
incidents completely go against these
principles. The only consequence is
negative.
The Corbett Sports WPL Secretary has
written to all member clubs write to remind
them that we should be proactive against
further incidents, by conveying messages to
the most important people; Fans and
Security.

Aber Town's excellent crowd of 463 for their last home match against Port Talbot ensured that the Black and
Greens' attendance figures for 2013/4 are the highest for ten years.
The crowd brought the overall figure for the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League (WPL) matches to 6432, or an
average over 16 games of 402. This represents a 21% increase on last season, and the highest average since
2003/4.
"It is clear that the attacking style of football Manager Ian Hughes has brought to the Club is popular with the
supporters," said Club Marketing Director Thomas Crockett, and the Players and Management have regularly paid
tribute to the support which has helped ensure Town have the second best home playing record in the WPL.
"Friday night matches help enormously to boost WPL crowd figures, and It is true we have also put on a number
of Promotional events this season, such as a Sponsors Day, two Schools Visits, four Student Promotions, a Family
Fun Day and a Club Photograph," said Crockett, "so the hard work of Tom Bates, Stuart Jones, Luke Crocker and
Chris Heffernan on the Marketing Committee has been a really important factor in our attendance boom."
"On behalf of the Club I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our supporters for their fantastic loyalty over the
season, and reassure them we are doing everything possible to ensure we can bring Europa League football to
Park Avenue in July."
Club Stalwart Sion James passed a significant milestone on Saturday when he made his 300th Welsh Premier
League appearance at Bastion Gardens, Prestatyn.
Penrhyncoch born and bred, Sion is one of the longest serving players at the club and has been an integral part of
the first team over the last nine years. He began his career at Aberystwyth before spending time at Carmarthen
Town, Barry Town and Penrhyncoch before returning to Park Avenue in 2004 to cement his place in the first
team.
Happy to play where needed, Sion plays in a variety of positions across the back and midfield, but has made most
of his starts as a centre back. Sion won supporters and players player of the year in season 2009/10, and his best
moment at Aber was surely scoring against his beloved Liverpool in a friendly at Park Avenue in 2009 - though a
hat trick scored at Bow Street a few weeks later ran it close!

THE Wingmakers ended their most successful Welsh Premier campaign ever with a 1-1 draw away at
Newtown's Latham Park, to top last season's points tally by five.
It was a creditable outcome for management duo Andy Preece and Andy Morrison, who were again
without several key squad members due to injuries and suspensions and handed a second start to
youngsters Zy Edwards and Aaron Hassall.

Manager Nev Powell has issued a rallying cry for the supporters to turn out and back the team in the
Europa League play-offs. Speaking after the 2-0 victory of rivals Rhyl, Nev said
"The Bangor fans are a twelfth player to us and always have been. The reason we have been so
successful over the past five years is the Bangor following. I'm sure in two weeks time we'll have a big
crowd spurring the lads on and we are all looking forward to it immensely. The fans play a massive part
in what we do".
Nev was also full of praise for his playing staff, paying particular praise to the youngsters.
"You look at the start of the season and we had the budget cut and a lesser playing squad and I think the
club just wanted to ensure we stayed in the league this season but the players have over achieved. You
look at the squads other clubs have assembled and the wage bills other clubs have got, but it still looks
like we have a chance of finishing third so it's all credit to the young players in there because we have
got a wafer thin squad.
As we have seen last week, if you lose two or three out of them it's really difficult when you are
playing the likes of TNS and the big squads. The players have enjoyed it (the season), it's been a long,
hard road and we've got the play-offs to look forward to and wouldn't it be great if we could get back
into Europe. We've invested a lot of money into our new ground and we've got the training facility
coming and it's not about spending all of the money on the players. We had a modest budget when we
won the league and we want to try and do that again. It's getting harder and harder every year. Clubs
want that dream of Europe and they are throwing as much money as they can at it.
We've earned the right to be in that play-off semi-final and the players are going to enjoy it. If we can
get into Europe it will be massive for us.

Newtown midfielder Sean Evans is facing time on the sidelines after rupturing his Patellar Tendon during the
Robin's 3-0 win over Rhyl on Good Friday.
Evans suffered the injury late on in the clash after flying into the lilywhites dugout, and he was later taken to
hospital. The former Manchester United man had an MRI scan and the results were today revealed.
Club Physio Wayne Peter who has been keeping a close eye on Evans injury released the news.
He said: "Sean's MRI scan showed he has suffered a grade three rupture of the Patellar Tendon with extensive
damage to other soft tissue within the knee joint.
"After being discharged from hospital on Friday evening I thought it necessary he went for a scan and he will now
see a leading knee surgeon imminently who will direct his rehabilitation.
"I would like to wish Sean all the best in what is another major injury setback for him, but with the attitude he has
I am positive he can come through this even stronger. And I am committed to helping him achieve that and see
him doing what he does best on the pitch in the future."
In his career Evans has suffered other serious injuries, such as a broken leg during a match while at AFC Telford
United. Boss Chris Hughes said today how big of a loss Evans will be to the side, and has praised the work done
by physio Peter and his assistant Sophie Love.
He said: "Sean is going to be a big loss for us as he is just coming in to form, however myself and the
management team, as well as the players need to pull together now.
"I speak for everyone at the club, players, supporters and directors when I wish Sean all the best in his recovery,
and I am sure he will be back scoring goals soon.
"Also a big thanks goes to Wayne and Sophie for the work they have done in helping Sean so far."
Evans won't play a part in the rest of Newtown's season, and it is not known for how long the knee injury will
keep him out of the game..

PORT Talbot Town have received a second Healthy Heart grant from national charity Heart Research UK and
sandwich franchise SUBWAY stores for the community work it is doing with teenagers.
Port Talbot Community Sports, the charitable arm of Port Talbot Town FC, has been awarded nearly 9,000 to
fund their second healthy heart project with a new focus the first time a second grant has been awarded to a
Welsh organisation.
The club previously received funding for its Lion Heart project which brought
healthy heart messages to primary school pupils aged 8-11 and reached 10
primary schools in the Neath Port Talbot area. Due to the success of this project,
Port Talbot Community Sport wants to broaden its reach by teaching teenagers
and youth clubs how to look after their hearts.
The Healthy Heart project will be completed by 10 local youth clubs each
receiving four weeks of heart healthy sessions. The sessions will be two hours long with the first hour focusing on
the negative impacts of alcohol, smoking and drug miss-use as well as how to have a healthy diet and the
importance of exercise for the heart. The clubs GenQuip Stadium will be the host of the project which is the
perfect environment for the activity side of the session. The hour long coaching session will consist of football,
tag rugby, Kwik cricket and others, to help encourage the teenagers to try a variety of different sports. Every
quarter a football festival will be held at the stadium to inspire teenagers to stay active and healthy. On March 31
over 150 girls aged six to 11 from 11 local schools took part in a 22-team round-robin tournament, they were also
joined by Wales manager Chris Coleman.
All participants will also receive a free match ticket to a Welsh Premiership football match.
Lee John, Head of Community Development at Port Talbot Community Sports says: We are absolutely thrilled
about the new grant, as the first organisation to be awarded the grant on two occasions we are very grateful.
In the new project we will be working very closely with the local Youth Service where we will be engaging
with local teenagers in the Neath/ Port Talbot area, at peak anti-social behaviour times. The project will focus on
raising awareness of important heart health subjects.
We hope to provide sustainability to the project long term, as all youth clubs will have a volunteer base within
their community this will be linked with our Time Banking System. We are delighted to be promoting positive
heart messages in the Neath Port Talbot area and working with HRUK and sandwich franchise SUBWAY
stores.
Barbara Harpham, National Director at Heart Research UK says: We are delighted to award Port Talbot
Community Sport this second grant to help teenagers learn about how to look after their hearts.
We were really pleased with the success of their previous project and are looking forward to seeing how they
progress. Educating teenagers about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle through projects like this are
great way of making it fun and interactive, creating good habits that will hopefully stay with them for a lifetime.

is delighted to be able to fund this worthwhile initiative. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of our staff and
customers in Wales, we have managed to support a unique community project which will help to promote heart

Reserve team manager Mark Boulton has sadly decided to step down as manager due to ill health. Mark has been
a great servant to the club over the years, bringing in numerous trophies to the club as well as bringing through a
large number of players from the reserves to the first team. Bolly`s success has led to the Daily Posts Dave Jones
describing Bolly as probably the greatest manager the Clwyd League has ever known.
Everyone at the club wishes Mark a speedy recovery, and we are sure he will still be a regular at Bastion Gardens.
Another game where we did not take our chances; being in control for large parts of the game we didn't take our
chances like other games this season and a lapse in concentration means we lose the game by the odd goal.
I think its disappointing for the board and the fans - and I'm really disappointed myself that we did not stay up in
the league by the right manner by winning the last game of the season. A disappointing season for us over all and
something we have to reflect on and make sure we come back better and stronger for next season- more like the
Prestatyn we have been for the last seven years

I had hoped that the League fixtures would have been completed before penning this article but
obviously the footballing gods had other ideas over the weekend.
I accept that re-scheduling the Carmarthen and New Saints match for tomorrow night is not ideal but
both clubs were consulted regarding a number of alternative dates and so Tuesday it is.
If the Old Gold do manage to beat the Champions they will secure home advantage through the Play-Off
process so theres still plenty to play for.
The Play-Off Semi Finals will happen on May the 10th. However if Aberystwyth beat TNS in the Welsh
Cup Final on Saturday then Bala will travel to Rhyl next Monday for a Quarter Final game so the
excitement keeps coming. Even if youre not an Aber or TNS fan please do your best to support the
event. If its as half as good as last seasons final from a neutrals perspective it will be well worth it.
For the last time this season I visited the Marstons Stadium on Saturday. Although the young Lido side
were heavily beaten again, by an impressive Gap Connahs Quay team they fought hard until the final
whistle and showed a lot of heart and promise. I wish them all the best in the Welsh League and would
like to place on record my personal thanks to Alan Howells at the club for his co-operation since I have
been in post.
As this season has proved time and time again football has a habit of churning up unpredictable
results. I went to watch unbeaten Cardiff Met host PILCS on Sunday and the students only needed a
point to be crowned Shared Access Welsh Premier Womens Champions. PILCS however put Mets
treble celebrations on hold as they won 3-1 on Cyncoeds impressive 3G pitch.
Its great being a neutral supporter sometimes. Enjoy your week.

Roeddwn wedi gobeithio y byddai holl gemaur Cynghrair wedi eu chwarae bellach wrth gwrs ond
doedd y duwiau pl-droed ddim yn gwenu arnom dros y penwythnos.
Rwyn derbyn yn llwyr nad yw ail-drefnu gm Caerfyrddin yn erbyn Y Seintiau Newydd nos yforyn
ddelfrydol ond gwnaed y penderfyniad wedi trafodaethau helaeth gydar ddau glwb felly nos Fawrth
amdani!
Rydym yn gwybod wrth gwrs y bydd Rownd Gyn-derfynol y Gemau Ail Gyflen digwydd ar y 10fed o
Fai ond bydd Y Rhyl yn croesawur Bala mewn gornest Go Gyn-derfynol brynhawn Llun nesaf - os y
bydd Aberystwyth yn curor Seintiau yn Ffeinal Cwpan Cymrur Sadwrn yma. Rwyn siwr bydd nifer o
gefnogwyr Maes Tegid yn mynd ir Cae Ras felly hefyd gefnogwyr timau eraill ein Cynghrair sydd
