Sun Link Sea Forest Recreation Area is located in Nantou county. It is famous for
its fascinating sun-link-sea scenery. It is situated at Xitou on the way to Alishan.
Situated at the elevation of 1,600~1800 meter and it is about 40 hectare of Sun
Link Sea Forest Recreation Area. Sun Link Sea has an average of 20 degree
Celsius all year long. China Fir and hemlock dot the entire countryside and
blanketed the entire area in green. This place also offers the beautiful view of Mt.
Hehuan in the distance.
Shianyinpo (Contrast Village) is another village located at the 9.5 km to the
entrance of Shihchai Tourist Path. At an altitude of 1,500 meters, this spot affords
splendid views of Phoenix Mountain Ridge and the villages scattered around the
Xitou area. The well-know Zhuxi ancient red cypress tree area is located at the
mid way of Liewlungtou to Anding tunnel, about 12 km from Xitou. The diameter
of Zhuxi red cypress tree is 7meters, 60 meters high, 21 meter round and has last
more than a thousand years. Shyr-jing-ji there are more than 10 local wells
scattered between the huge rock layers under The 88 Suspension Bridge.
Through ages of erosion, the riverbeds form ditches with deep wells.
Chinglong Waterfall with water cascading from a height of 116 meters creating
the clouds of mist, which is the most majestic waterfall of Sun Link Sea and the
prettiest waterfall in central Taiwan. Tian-Ti-Yen (Heaven and Earth Eyes) these are
two giant holes at the mid-slop of the mountain, like a pair of human eyes. The
legend of Tian-Ti-Yen is the people who are faithful and kind will be encouraged
and consoled when they reach Tian-Ti-Yen, and with those who are sneaky and
deceptive will be punished. Songlong Rock Waterfall is the best scenery of Sun
Link Sea by far. Inside the Sun Link Sea Forest Recreation Area there is a herb and
Flower Garden which grows more than 30 different kinds of flowers each year.
Sun Moon Lake
Located in Yuchi Township, Sun Moon Lake is known as the biggest freashwater
lake in Taiwan. The lake is 748 meter above sea level with a total area of 5.4
square kilometers. Divided by the Lalu island at the center, the lake has a unique
shape like the sun on the east side and crescent moon shape on the west side;
thus earning the name Sun Moon Lake. With its abundant beauties and enriched
ecosystems, it is fond by all visitors.

Cingjin is blessed with abundant natural resources and beautiful sceneries.
Operated by Veterans Affairs Commission, the Cingjing Farm is located in Renai
Township at an altitude around two thousand meters. It is one of the three highest
farms in Taiwan (Fushoushan Farm and Wuling Farm).
Cingjing Farm has many famous attractions including the Green Green Grasslands,
the Small Swiss Garden, Butterfly Garden, Cow and Goat Herds area, and six
walking trails. The Green Green Grasslands is the most popular site in Cingjing
Farm. Numerous sheep gathered around the emerald green grassland; visitors
may take photos with them and enjoy the sheep shearing show. The Small Swiss
Garden has been called Taiwans Little Switzerland for its colorful flowers as well
as fantastic mountain sceneries. The Butterfly Garden has over hundred different
species of butterflies so visitors may see numerous colorful butterflies dancing in
the sky.
There are 6 well-known hiking trails for visitors to take strolls. Visitors may view
the tea terraces and attractive lake at Green Lake Trail; enjoy the unique view of
sunset at Sunset Trail; breathe in the natural pythonicdere at Cryptomeria Trail;
get close to sheeps and cows at Pasturage Trail; view beautiful flowers at
Margarita Trail and appreciate the sea of clouds, forest, butterflies and goats at
the Bubugaoshen Trail.

Located in Lugu Township, the Sitou (Xitou) Forest Recreation Area (or Sitou
Nature Education Area) is one of the seven experimental forests that belong to
the National Taiwan University, It is a popular recreation area with abundant
natural resources, and its annual average number of visitors is around one million.
Since the average temperature here is around 16.6 degrees celsius, this
recreation area is perfect for hikers, bird-lovers and nature lovers.
Walking Trails
Sitou (Xitou) Forest Recreation Area has eleven trails for visitors to hike and to get
close to the nature. Visitors may view a wide array of trees such as Japanese
cypress, Taiwan red cypress, divine trees, ginkgo trees, as well as Moso bamboos.
Also, bird-lovers may find a total of seventy species of birds along the trail,
including Liocichla steerii, White-eared Sibia, Grey-cheeked Fulvetta, Greenbacked Tit, Japanese White-eye, Streak-breasted Vivid Niltava, Grey-capped
Woodpecker, Grey-headed Pygmy Woodpecker and many others. 8x32 binoculars
are recommended in order to view the birds.

The on-site facilities includes a bamboo cottage, a bamboo house, a camping
area, a coffee shop, an exhibition center, a pond, an overlook and astronomical
overvatory, a pavilion, a plant nursery, restaurants, souvenir stores, meeting
rooms and lodging places. Visitors may watch films about Forest Ecological
Exhibition Center. Moreover, visitors may view beautiful sceneries at University
Pond, Mt. Phoenix Overlook and Astronomical Observatory, and Prof. Wang
Memorial Pavilion.
Overall, Sitou (Xitou) Forest Recreation Area is not only a place for hiking and birdwatching, but also a place to explore the natural beauties of Taiwan and expand
their knowledge of ecology.

Puli Town Night Market, or called Puli Town Holiday Night Market because it only
open on Fridays and weekends, is a huge night market with over 12000 square
meter of space for 550 vendors. Situated on the memorial site of the 921
earthquake where they record and preserve the history of rebuilding Puli
Township, the night market is also dedicated to the remembering spirit and
promoting the tourism in Puli to its former glory. The night market set up charity
and non-profit stalls at the entrance in order to help the ones that loss in the
earthquake which is very different from any other night market.
Only open 3 days a week, Friday to Sunday, Puli Town Holiday Night Market starts
from 5 pm to around 11 pm. Fridays would be the best day to visit, when the most
vendors open on this day. With free parking space for all vehicles, its a very
convenient holiday night market. It is the largest night market in Nantou, the
market offered like any other night market, shops, food and games. Exotic and
local snacks include taco yaki, braised and fried snacks, stinky tofu, tempura,
crepe and larger stalls like steaks and Mongolian Barbecue. Due to the large
space large air castles and trampoline are able to set up in the night market. Make
sure to pay a visit if you are in Nantou for the weekend, half for charity and half
for the fun.
