Log Sheet for Recording

You will be assessed and moderated using the following document - make sure it is thoroughly filled
in!
Learning Outcome

Specific Detail

What microphone types have you

chosen and why?

What are you recording e.g. guitar, vocals, etc.

Vocal
Dynamic or condenser microphone?
Dynamic
Why have you chosen this microphone?
I have chosen to use a dynamic microphone because I think that dynamic microphones are less sensitive than
condensers so you can record the vocals without all the extra noises.

What placement have you used

and why?

How many microphones are you using? I am using one microphone.

Where are your microphones placed, and how far away?
I will have my microphone placed at my mouth level around 15cm from my mouth.
Why have you chosen this placement?
If it is to close than the microphone will be able to pick up many sounds such as breathing as it is sensitive.
Whereas if you have the microphone at a reasonable distance it is able to just take in your voice. And if it was
too far away the microphone wouldnt be able to hear it at all.

What other equipment have you

used?

What cables have you used to connect the microphone to the audio interface?
I would use XLR to XLR cable, as it is designed for the microphone.
What channel is it on the audio interface?
Either channel 1 or 2.
What track is it on the Cubase mixer?
Track 1.
Other equipment uses:
I also used headphones so I could hear through the other end of the interface.
Microphones stand to hold the microphone.

Evaluation of sound and any

changes you have made.

Were you happy with your initial placement and sound of the instrument?
I had placed the microphone just in front of my mouth at an appropriate level for the microphone to hear me,
and throughout the 3 recordings it was fine.

Input level set

Take a photo of your input levels on your Cubase mix and your audio interface dial.

Recording evaluation

Was the first recording successful?

I had to record three times, the first time I was not happy with my recording as for example the chorus, I got the
timing completely wrong with the backing track, which then changed all the timing for the rest of song. So I
tried again the second time but I was disappointed with the high notes I chose, so the third time I tried I was
happy with the sound and everything.

Health and Safety Procedures

What Health and Safety Procedures have you covered during the setup of your recording?
I made sure the wires were taped down, so there was no trip hazard. I also made sure that the microphone
was secure in the stand.

Location of recording

Where is your file saved? (Copy the EXACT location!)

Your recording sessions must have photographic evidence - make sure you have a partner to help you by taking
photos of your work on your phone or on an iPad (make sure you collect these photos afterwards - this is your
responsibility!)
